Car prices set to crash by 50% as auto market collapse begins

Sorry, I've no time to watch crap like that with its 1970s style cinematic graininess. (Why did they even feel they needed to edit that **** in anyway 🤷)

I'll wait for a reliable source such as Bloomberg or Reuters rather than some channel that want you to subscribe to it.

Just like the 2009 economic problem it will be the expensive to run cars that the middle income £30-100k pa gross that will collapse whilst economic cars will stay strong I predict.

With Road tax a bit of a killer combined in J RS Hunt quite possibly going to restore the 5p back on to Excise duty, in combination with the cost of living crisis it is easy to predict those high performance cars ie 250 hp north, to drop quickly in value.

I have been monitoring my Arkana 1.333 TCE, Clio 0.9TCE and ZOe ZE50 and they all seem quite strong in retained value and I expect that to continue.

How does one get I buy any car to stop chasing one ?

When I was in the showroom a few weeks ago I asked if they were busy. They were selling more than ever and even they thought the prices were stupid but no shortage of punters.

the only prices I've seen drop are on formerly very expensive cars, Land Rover, Range rover, V8 BMWs, big diesels etc. Everything else is selling no problem.

prices might not be falling right now, but it's gonna happen at some point

It certainly will and still some will make a fortune out of others making huge losses in the business of finance, trading, speculation and money lending.  That is how it goes with commerce.   If all you want is to buy a car or lease one for transport then you just do the deal that suits you.

I've been waiting on car prices to collapse for 10yr

VAG putting up prices, having a laugh..............

I've just posted my own theory to agree with the title of this post. Not watched any of the videos yet.

See if you agree, should be the latest reply on page 2:

I think the used car market will struggle for a while yet. Used stock, especially the desirable 2-4 year old cars that PCPs produce (one of the main reasons dealers like to sell PCPs) are still in short supply. Chip shortages, which are still ongoing, if a lot better these days, mean manufactures prefer to sell higher spec cars and models and as these cars are in general short supply for the used market they are holding up well in their inflated prices. It will end one day, but I think we are a couple of years away from a more sensible pricing strategy coming to the mass used car market 😞 last year if you wanted a new 2.0 F type, it was a 12 month wait, if you wanted a 5.0 V8 it was around 6 months for the 450bhp model and even less for the silly SVR versions. Jaguar wanted to put their limited resources (Covid related issues) into the higher spec and higher priced models. Hopefully it will eventually lead to some bargains, but I'm not seeing any yet. I saw a big Merc dealer close in Manchester last year, partially because they couldn't get any decent used stock. 50% drop! Imho I can't see that happening. Mind you a half price V8 F type would be nice :)

These things always seem to have more inertia than you hope for 😞
