Glow Plug position 1, circuit open fault, 2015 Octavia vRS 184 estate 180k miles

Featured Replies

Hi all, got the above issue with my trusty bus, high-ish miles but its it mainly motorway miles.

seems to have caused an issue with the DPF as it is cycling on every journey now.

looked to buy a set of new glow plugs on GSF, all makes say 3 required so i assume one of them has a pressure sensor built in, but couldn't find that type listed?

After reading some of the horror stories regarding seized and even snapped plugs i am a little worried about progressing 😬

Thanks in advance

Andy

3 preheat plugs on a 4 cylinder engine, one of them with a pressure sensor, are you sure of that?

Pre-heat plugs should have no connection to DPF regen frequency.

There are 4 plugs, only difference is one has the pressure sensor.

Yes DPF regens do use glow plugs to help increase post combustion/exhaust gas temperatures to aid with DPF regens.

I know it's a four cylinder engine, but the listing for new spares says three required, so the fourth must have a pressure sensor fitted? thats my take on it

The one with the sensor must still operate as a glow plug as well, otherwise you'd get misfiring from that cylinder when starting from cold.

Do you know which of the plugs is the one with the sensor?

Number 3 from the timing end.

Thank you!

A cylinder combustion pressure sensor?

What is its purpose?

Thats a mighty harsh environment for any sensor.

Every day is a school day, thanks for the correction @ApertureS
