Indy Garage Recommendations / General Advice

Featured Replies

If you could take some time to read this (slightly lengthy) description and offer any advice I'd really appreciate it.

I recently purchased a Scout 2007. Two issues were ABS and now Power Steering. I traced the ABS fault to dodge wiring harness and have now purchased new one(not fitted yet). The Power Steering issue, I think, is because of battery drain/low voltage resetting the system and the Power Steering hasn't reset/relearnt yet (I'm still looking into this). I took briefly to a mechanic friend who said there had also been a major oil leak but didn't have the time to check where. I ran a fault scan and found a few faults:

UD01900 Instrument cluster control module, Missing signal oil level/temperature

P161C00 Glow Plug cylinder 3, Open Circuit

00283 Left Front ABS wheel sensor (I have bought new harness that will hopefully correct this)

01316 ABS Control module (I'm hoping fixing harness will remove this code)

02546 Steering limit stop - no or incorrect basic setting/adaptation

00778 Steering angle sensor

I think I want to commit to this vehicle and run it till the end, it has 129,000 on the clock and *some* service history. Last full service was in 2020. Truth be told I've fallen in love with the style, colour and feel of it (before power steering failed that is aha).

It had a new flywheel/clutch in 2016. No sign of cam belt change so this would be a priority. I'm abit worried about how long there has been an oil leak and if its been running dry for some time.

Do you think I should take the plunge and start rolling out the ££notes on this?! I would like someone who knows these well to give it a good looking over before I do. Hopefully it will be our main family car and will be reliable enough that we can move to a one car household (cost of living you know it).

I would have liked to have had a go at some of the basic jobs on this myself with the support of groups like this, however, truth is... We have baby number two on the way soon and I know that I have to prioritise getting our house in order and not spend the last of my precious free time tinkering under the hood on weekends (even though I'd like to).

So is there anyone in my area that knows these beasts and can give it a good looking over? Or is there any recommendations of solid mechanics/garages who will do the service/leak/wiring harness/cam belt jobs?

I live in Kidderminster, Worcs.

Thanks for your time,

Dan

First thing I'd do re the PAS is replace the steering angle sensor or at least get the wiring to it and the alternator checked as I seem to recall these were a common failure point on some cars.  The angle sensor is relatively cheap and earlier ones did suffer water ingress.

As for someone to look at it soryy can't help there...

Hello Daniel, welcome to the forum. I'm sure someone local to you will be along soon with suggestions.

@DanielMcG I would drop Tech1e a PM, he knows these cars inside out, ex main dealer tech.
