Canton Sound System and head unit / firmware upgrades.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

This is my first post! So please be gentle with me.

I have got a 65 plate L&K octavia estate with factory fitted Canton sound system and I believe the MIB2 head unit with DAB.

first of all the sound in the car is terrible and I’m trying to find out if there is anything that can be done. The bass from the tiny subwoofer in the boot is hardly noticeable(standing next to it with the boot open just to see if I could hear anything at all). I have played around with the settings and asked online the same question to other owners who have the same system and not really getting any clear answer.

I did speak to an independent VAGCOM company online and they mentioned about doing a software update and this might fix a bug… I have started looking into the possibility of updates on here and I’m just more confused if I’m honest!

Can anyone please advise if they know of these issues? Or how it can be updated and the possible cost?

I have had the car a year now and it’s the only thing that is really letting it down!

Sorry for the long lost and thanks for any help!

this is the current version of software on the car.

cheers 😁

You can update to 0253 version, as long as the smoke remains in the boot afterwards, you should be OK.

@pab567

Can you see any potential issues with updating software with Canton installed?

Never had any issues in such case...

Hello guys!
thanks for replying.

Pab could you advise how I could go about updating the current head unit in the car? I have just looked and found the sat nav SD card is missing. Would I need a new SD card before any update?

sorry for all of the questions as I’m totally new to this.

thanks

I can reply here for you, the missing NAV SD Card is not a big issue (some hate the mapping, and use alternatives)

If you do want maps, then you need a "VAG" SD Card (Skoda/Seat/VW) and the forum has instrutions and downloads.  So let us know if you wish this, and we can aim you in the right direction.

I will send you 0253 update as mentioned before, same version I am running on own car.

@pab567I will send firmware, and thank you for anwering the Canton question, I wanted to make sure there was no hidden surprises in doing the update (I seem to recall Audi I think would say not to update the amplifier, but nobody ever said why)

Thanks for the info and the message ! I think if I can get the head unit upgraded with the firmware… I might have to buy a SD card from maps too. I have a Non Skoda SD card but I imagine that wouldn’t work if I downloaded UK maps from Skoda…. It wouldn’t read it in the car ?
appreciate the help guys 👍🏻

Firmware is any card.

Maps have to live on say a Skoda SD Card, and then it needs to stay in the car 24/7.  eBay or Amazon might have fakes, so make sure you have PayPal protection or fight Amazon.

Thanks for the help guys! I have been to a skoda dealer and they looked at the Canton system and confirmed it is all functioning as it should ( Sounds terrible but it is just how it sounds).

I have attempted to open the Firmware link to upgrade it onto a 32GB SD card and I cannot get the link to open. I am in the UK if that makes any difference? I have also found a skoda SD card under a floot mat when cleaning the car and it appears to be totally blank. Would you guys say it is better to get a new card? Sorry for all the questions!

Thanks :)

Firmware link from me, they expire after 24hrs?

The Skoda card, format it FAT32 and check it's OK, then you can put maps on it.

Yes the link you kindly sent me. I just got a card reader delivered today. The Skoda card I found is an official one and seems to be totally blank.
I have a 32GB third party card from Amazon. (Which I was going to use for the firmware update.
