17in wheel on a VRS245

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm trying to work out if 17 inch wheels would fit over the brakes of a 2019 vrs245. The stock 19in wheels on my wife's car are getting beaten up, and we've had 2 tyres ruined by potholes in the last few months, so I was hoping to downsize.

I haven't been able to find anything specific to the vrs245 in my googling but apparently they did come with larger brakes (340mm) and brake clearance with the 18in spare wheel seems pretty tight, so I'm a bit iffy on wether or not they would fit. I know 17s were an option on the standard VRS, but I'm not sure about the VRS245. Does anyone know for sure?

There's a discussion about that here - https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/mkvii-golf-r-or-gti-with-performance-brakes-17-inch-wheels.376367/

I've never done it but I did run 16" winter wheels over 312 mm brakes on a Golf and if the balance weights were not carefully placed, they could contact the callipers.

Awesome, thanks for the link. Seems like it's safer to go for a set of 18s.

My petrol vrs  came with 17 inch wheels and my winget tyres are also on 17 rims. So no problem at All. 16 won't fit

Skoda did make Crystal 17in winter alloys fitting VRs's 340mm brakes.  Incidentally, you could also get these in black and they complement the vrs black package looks very well. You can fit 205/55/R17 tyres on them without clearance problems (Mk3 Scout has the taller tyre size), though if you desperately want stock vrs wheel diameter you need 205/50R17.

Whats wrong with 225/45/17. That is the standard 17 tyre size for Octavia.

205/55/17 tyres give much more comfortable and pothole/kerb resistant ride (tyre side is taller than most kerbs/potholes), probably also better fuel consumption for people who care. The Crystal alloys I have posted about are significantly narrower than the stock 17in Octy wheels, so that even with 205 wide tyres the alloy is protected from scuffs. Of course, with narrower and higher profile tyre handling can reach limits, but frankly unless you are on track it makes little difference.

Nothing wrong, I have 224x45x17 the ride is a little rough (mostely due to the vrs suspension being stiff) but handling is great with asymmetric 3's
