Interesting towns within 2hrs of...

Hi folks,

Never tried this before, but no stranger to interesting routes/ locations abroad ranging from Kalahari to the Himalayas. 

 

Which is considered to be interesting,  for driving to and wandering/shop window / or beach browsing....within 2 hrs by car from Salisbury...?

 

We've explored West as far as Poole, North as far as Oxford, East to Guildford ( My original home town) an unexplored area lays to the Easr of Southampton....?

Portsmouth and that area remains unknown...is it worth a trundle  ? Just so long as the shops are on the streets, cant stand Basingstoke..the vertical shopping , similar to Reading... is awful  ! Farnham is also good.

 

Shaftsbury is a good day out, as is Dorchester. Not a lot there but pleasant for a browse and lunch.

So folks what's  your thoughts on the area adjoining Soton, to the East...

The historic waterfront in Portsmouth is interesting (though I’d avoid the shopping centre!). A bit closer to Southampton is  Hillhead and Meon Shore, a nice place for a coastal stroll; and nearby Titchfield is a nice old village.

 

Chichester area esp. the harbour, a bit further east may be beyond your 2hr range, is lovely. The old village of Bosham worth a trip.

 

I’m guessing you’re familiar with Winchester & Stockbridge, but have you been to New Alresford? And a bit further north east, Odiham a pleasant village with an old castle ruin and canal to stroll along.

Marlborough is about an hour's drive from Salisbury. Good range of shops on the high street.
