I need to get power straight from the battery into the cabin of my 2019 Karoq 4x4

Featured Replies

So here is the problem, I run amateur radio in my Karoq, it can draw up to 20 Amps @ 13.8V and it needs to be as clean as possible (no horrid voltage spikes or noise). The usual solution is to run a supply direct from the battery into the cabin via fused Pos and Neg cables. The problem with the Karoq seems to be that there is no visible cable grommet I cn open a new hole in to bring the cables through. There must be one somewhere but I cannot locate it. When I was younger I might have crawled underneath but nowadays I am not so inclined.

Have anyone got any clues please?

I think ( might be totally wrong) if you remove the battery a loom of wires go through the bulkhead in a plastic elbow this would come into the cabin by the fuse box that is behind the glove box. That is how I got a feed through in my old Yeti .

Hi M5AIO,

I also have a radio installation in my Karoq SEL, and can confirm that there is a good grommett behind the battery to go through the bulkhead.

I run quite a bit of comms kit in my car, and have an auixilliary battery in the boot with smart charging. This obviouly saves loading the vehicle battery, but as the car (being EURO 6) has a BMS (battery management system), if you pull an unexpected load (e.g. high power tx) from the battery, then you may get a waring on the dash.

Here are some images of my installation 😄
