Creaky steering

Featured Replies

Has anyone had a problem on their Octavia II's where the steering creaks, mostly at a standstill (ie: if your turning the wheel to move out of a parking space?)

You may have already discussed this elsewhere on the site, but I would be interested to see how many have been back to thier dealers. We've had five so far, resulting in changing the rack and ball joints.

There's a recall on this I think. Contact your dealer. I think it also affects MkV Golfs.

I had this on my 05 Occy 2. Creacked on full left lock. Got slightly worse over 2-3 months. Visited the dealer, they contacted Skoda and said I need a new steering rack. 2 day job!

Was I glad it was in warranty! That would have cost a few quid. My advice, get it in and looked at.

I've found that my creaking has disappeared with the increase in temperature. I took it in to the dealer a few weeks ago, and found that it went silent after the 30 min journey. Now the suns out it doesn't do it at all

Mine creaked badly when I bought it in Janurary. When I took it in for a service last month they said they couldn't repro it. I must admit when I got the car back off them I couldn't repro it either.

Maybe it was your back??? It's funny what bugs some people, but not others. Given a lift in a mate's S type Jag [about 3 years old] a few days ago. His steering made all kinds of rubbing noises and squeaks. When I mentioned it, he looked surprised, then shrugged and said it was just the wheels turning. [??? Quite !!!]

Search the forum please. This issue is old and the rack needs to be replaced. Mine has. The dealer should be aware of this issue. Search the forum and take the print outs to the dealer, that is what I had to do, but I have a new rack now, and no creaky business.

Regards.
