Scout or Sportline 1.5 / 2 0

Hi everyone,

Been a Skoda owner for a while, Yeti 1.2 Elegance DSG  for the last five years, 1.8 Octavia L&K DSG for three before. Now considering changing to Karoq.

Currently considering a Scout and two Sportlines, one 1.5  the other 2.0. All under 30k miles, the 1.5s are 2019 the 2.0 is 2020. All DSG petrol 4x4.

Going to look at all three, grateful for any tips on what to look out for / check on used Karoqs.

Thank you in advance.

If you are looking at a 2019 1.5, make sure it has had software updates (although DSG versions never had same kangaroo problems of manual)

All the 4x4 versions need a Haldex service around 38-40k miles, and those will be fitted with wet box DSG that needs fluid change.

Apart from obvious that they were serviced on time (not more than 1000 miles late) and no visible damage, also worth checking the tyres for same date code and wear.  How tyres are treated is often good indicator.  If you ever come across a car with 4 random tyres then bet your life only minimum spent on maintenance when absolutely necessary.

Have a look under boot floor, check if it has spare tyre and general cleanliness, will also give you a clue if it has had hard life or not.

Not sure if you can still do it, but Skoda used to offer a free check for eligibility for all in one servicing, even if you had to buy it, always get check booked in straight away, that way if there are any problems you can go straight back to seller and ask for them to be rectified or discount to get them fixed (or even reject it if multiple faults).

Welcome to the forum.

Actually there is a software update for 1.5 TSI's with a DSG from certain dates. Also a DSG software update for the DQ200 DSG's. FWD 1.5 TSI ACT's.

The issue was there the same as with manuals, just maybe not as noticed or not there, they same as not all manuals had issues.

Servicing costs of the 1.5 TSI's and 2.0 TSI's might be quite similar.

A AWD 1.5 TSI ACT  / DSG has a DQ381 which is a service @ 80,000 miles or sooner & the Haldex @ 3 years / 30,000 miles or sooner.

With a FWD 1.5 TSI ACT will not require the DSG Serviced and no Haldex to service.

The Cam Belt will be quite expensive at 5 years if you do that with the 1.5 TSI ACT.

The 2.0TSI DSG service of the DSG is at 80,000 miles or sooner not at 40,000 miles.

The Haldex is at 3 years / 30,000 miles or sooner intervals.

Thanks for the replies, most useful. I think I am minded towards the 2.0, although it is less economical than the 1.5 there is no cam belt change required. Looking at the posts on here that's an expensive cost!

Back in 2019 I went for the Scout (1.5 TSi, DSG 4X4).  Two of the deciding factors were the light-coloured headlining compared to the claustrophobic black on the Sportline, plus the rear varioflex seats which give me better load carrying flexibility.

At the time the Scout, whilst not cheap, offered several standard add-ons for not much more money than my next choice, the SE L.

The 1.5 DSG Scout is a rare car in the UK, last time I checked there were only around 61 registered.

Skoda no longer sell Scout version in UK, or a 1.5 4x4

Whilst not directly relevant, always need to be aware if you get a niche model, availability of spare parts might be harder to get or more expensive.  Won't really be a problem where same parts are used in other models, but can be problem if you damage some obscure trim part and need a replacement.

Thanks for the contributions to this thread. In the end the......

2.0 Sportline won out.

Picked it up yesterday and had a decent four hour drive home with it.  The Navigation disappeared from the Digital Cockpit after I stopped for a coffee and a leg stretch. However, it is back this morning. Seems I am due a software upgrade to fix this from reading threads on here.

Other than that, oh my. What a fantastic car!

Now to work out what all those buttons do! 🤔

Don’t leave the Haldex service to the 80,000 mile interval. The previous 40,000 mile interval is too long too.

Skoda UK dealers don’t remove the pump and clean the debris from off the filter gauze. Changing the oil is pointless if it can’t pass through the filter.
