Im a new member and I just bought a used Octavia last week. It's 2015 model 1.4 TSI SE model hatchback. I bought it from a main dealer in Gloucestershire. 

 

2 things I miss in the car are iPhone connectivity (Apple carplay) and reversing camera. I got a quote from dealer for smart link for Apple car play and Android Auto compatibility but they referred me to a 3rd party called motor mods for fitting reversing camera. 

I was wondering about experience of other members with retro fitting reversing camera on this model Octavia and also any feedback on motormods pls. 

I got one from aliexpress, as have quite a few other members on here. £40 and its the best quality image ive seen on a Reversing cam. 

 

Takes about an hour to fit, pretty straightforward. 

 

 

Personally I would steer well clear of the chinese 'self coding' cameras as a first point, some people like them, personally I dont and ive seen many go wrong. 

 

Secondly, If you wanted to do it yourself there are forum guides available but you will need the parts, a good diagnostic tool, and (although the difference will barely noticed) to do it properly you need a calibration tool and ODIS to clear the basic setting fault code and set the guide line positions.

 

Unless of course, you wanted a trip to north london then its something I offer fully fitted using genuine parts and have done for quite a few people on the forum now

The thing is if it is the "small" handle as I have, there is no way to fit a genuine camera. Only third party ones.

@gs86 thanks for sharing the post, I had found it while researching but I believe it's too much risk with my lack of proper tools and experience but great dyi job nonetheless. 

 

@ApertureS can I have more details on your installation service pls? price, make of camera you use as I believe there isn't OEM available for Octavia pre 2017 (a dealer told me), does it need any drilling holes, will it work seamlessly with the OEM head unit and software without any software hacks?

 

@nickytheshaft Are the handle different for hatchback models of same mark?

as nicky said above, if you have the old style handle there is no genuine retrofit for that sorry. There are aftermarket options I believe but they wouldn’t be something I would fit sorry.

Be carreful, ols models also have 2 different types of plugs. Only way to know is to check behind the trim.

How sure are you for the plug thing? As looking on the parts diagram you have the old style handle 5E0827566 up till 25/05/2014 then after that it changes to 5E0827566B/3V0827566 which are both identical (these are standard handles without cameras) there is nothing of mention about different setups with different plugs that I can see

i assumed there where 2 sizes as the seller has both on his site and asked to check. 

One thing odd thought, my car is the 2l vrs ordered 04/2014 ans delivered 08/2014 and I have the old handle. I am sure it was built after 05/2014 (but we are getting off topic)

 

A question thought. My camera is 720p as I had an android device supporting ahd and 720p screen, the picture was superb. i then retrofitted a MIB2 amundsen with a 8 inch screen and analog video feed. The picture is so so . Does the unit struggle to go downscale the camera? will going to a 480p camera improve the picture quality?
