Keys not working in door and one key fob not working

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just got a 2010 Octavia vRS estate.

It came with 2 keys, one of which worked and one which didnt.

A quick battery change and the key that didnt work now starts the car.

However, the central locking doesnt work with this fob. Any ideas how to resync it as i've seen various methods online?

Now upon checking, both keys didn't seem to turn the barrel on the drivers door handle. I didn't want to force it incase they snapped and my 2007 was never hard to turn. Anybody had any known issues of the lock seizing or does it seem like the ignition has been replaced?

Thanks for any help.

EDIT:

Also, if it seems the door handle barrel is different from the ignition, is there any ways I can have a backup to get into the car if the battery fails or is it best to just replace the lock?

Have a look in the 'Owner's Manual' for synchronising and lots more useful info, even what's needed when putting the battery in the fob varies with models/years sometimes.

If you've not got the paper printed copy you can get a free pdf VWSkoda download from here. - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models

Despite what some men might tell you it's not sissy to read instruction manuals and is a very good idea with cars, load of info you need is in them.

PS It's very easy and quick to do.

I don't know but think it unlikely the ignition and door keys weren't the same from factory.

For synchronising from 2007 Octavia 'Owner's Manual' (it was the same but different wording).

Sounds like someone has changed  the ignition lock at some time.

1) They have changed the ignition lock and given you two new ignition keys which they had synchronised with the immobiliser.

2) They ignored the fact that the driver door can only be opened with the key that fits the old ignition barrel.

Ideally you need to fit a door lock barrel which accepts the same blade as the ignition key.

It is usually the ignition key barrel that seizes not the door barrel
