Bird **** and black magic paint

Featured Replies

Can anyone enlighten me on this!!!!

If this is my fault then i take full responsibility.

Just been called down by my girlfriend to clean some bird mess off her Fabia Vrs (I KNOW UNDER THE THUMB). It must have been there over the weekend as not used it because of the football. As i clean it off i notice that the paint is a little rough and bobbled thinking it was the mess.

After cleaning it off totaly the bird mess has eaten through the top coat and into the paint in a matter of 2 days it now looks as if it will flake away over time. Now, I believe that paintwork should withstand a little more than that. I have an ocavia myself and it is regularly covered in the stuff as there is no escape from the buggers in our area and it has never looked like that it has wiped off straight away never leaving a mark!!!!

Can anyone help? As i have said, if the black magic paint is so crap and it needs such protection the I hold my had up and will now wash it twice a day instead of every other week!!

I have no such issues with mine. Left it on for 3-4 days then i rinse with warm water and its gone. No damaged paint.

Did the car have any wax or anything on it out of interest, or it is washed "the fairy liquid and an old sponge way"?

The fact that its black magic is irrelevent as the clearcoat will be the same on all colours, its just that the black will make it more visable. Bird poo is quite acidic and will damage modern eco-friendly paints. There's probably a get-out clause in the paint warrenty telling you its should be cleaned off striaght away... ;)

I had a similar problem on mine, best wash with water only until gone (using meguiars quick detailer (mist and wipe thing not the clay) gave the laquer a petrol coloured haze). But with a little bit of elbow grease and meguiars scratch x repeated applications (polish let dry wipe clean then repeat again and again)gradually decreased to marking to the point where practically not visible. At this point I decided to be satisfied before ending up polishing right through to the paint. But you should see a little improvement just dont go too far with the polishing - stop and check by wiping dry every now and again!

Oh yeah and some bird much is particulary bad especially when they've been eating blackberries or if you are hit by an albatross!

Terodactyls makes quite a mess too apparently...

With the current heat wave the poo will bake on hard and fry into the paint, best to wash it away as quick as poss even if its only throwing over a bucket of cold water.
