I am looking at what software tools to get for doing maintenance on my car (e.g. rear brake unwind for pad changes etc.) and also for fault code reading.

 

Having previously had Ford products I was familiar with Forscan and another tool (can't remember its name) which were Ford platform specific.  I only need to be able to run service functions like the above mentioned brake unwind for pad / disc change, service interval setting etc. and also to read fault codes and reset fault codes.  I do not intend to change the car programming as I find the car is fine for me as stock.

 

What software / app / OBD port connector should I get?

VCDS will be the best but expensive and rightly so

 

If you’re only ever going to do basics then something like obdeleven but you can get a pro version which has more options like VCDS. I think obdelven for basic version isn’t too badly priced either but not looked in a while

 

Also obdeleven is quite crap because it’s not a lifetime license from what I remember so over the years costs more than VCDS

tis crap only for new, or recent new owners of OBDEleven.

 

for those who bought it a few years ago, like me, it was lifetime license, and continues to b lifetime

Thanks.   Did I see the price for VCDS is around £200??!

I am also finding OBDEleven a bit confusing.  I don't know what plan or pack would meet my needs?  effectively I only want the maintenance and service functions not reprogramming...

some e-shops still offers old gen1 OBDEleven PRO,

exactly same device which i used to for ŠS Mk3 2016 and now for Mk3.FL 2023

Yes around £200 is right gendan has it for £220 for 3 cars ( you can purchase more licenses if required

 

For obdevelen I just looked and read it as if you want the one touch options (not really recommended) you need an active subscription, without it it’ll continue to work but need to do coding yourself, which isn’t really relevant to you.

 

Personally I’d get VCDS especially as it’s software you can install on a laptop and has a great community and probably larger user base for help with things
