Competition clutch?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've noticed my revs have started to flare when I press the accelerator, before the car accelerates.  I'm guessing this is the clutch on its way out.  Does that seem likely?

I use the car for autosolo and targa rally events so needing a new clutch is not surprising.  Is there such a thing as a competition clutch available for these?  Mine's a 1.4 100hp 2006 model.

Thanks,

Jon

Certainly sounds like it, unfortunately.

Helix will be able to supply you one but it won't be cheap!

Thanks. Can’t see my model listed in their catalogue so have dropped them an email.

I'd say so, but I doubt there's a competition clutch for this model.

Yikes! I wouldn't use a paddle clutch, you'll be stalling it all the time.

Ah, are they a bit abrupt?  I've never tried one (obviously) :)

Apparently, they are awful for normal road driving.

Think on/off switch for your engine, great for rapid gearshifts, terrible for low speed control. You want a standard friction plate with an uprated diaphragm really, the standard spring fingers are too soft so that old ladies can have a light clutch pedal.

That's really helpful, thanks.  And a single mass flywheel?

It has a tiny single mass flywheel already, no way to improve on it really.

Clutch plate is only 200mm in diameter, my 2.0 is only 220mm, come to think of it you might be able to fit the 2.0 clutch and flywheel as an upgrade. You need to get your old one off so you can measure stuff.
