Potential gearbox issue

Featured Replies

Evening all

after telling everyone how reliable my sons Fabia has been over the last few years I jinxed it!…

it’s developed a serious vibration at 50mph and above. No wheel bearing noise

I’ve had it on the ramp and whilst one of the drive shaft boots has gone slightly on the left front i think it’s a red herring.
there is some backlash in the transmission

cv joints are in in lock both sides.

clutch doesn’t appear to be slipping

I fear it’s the box

Wheel balance checked all round? Tyre condition likewise?

First thing I checked when the vibration started but now much more severe

My first suggestion would've been to look at the tyres too. Try rotating the tyres front to rear and see if than makes any odds.

You say it only happens over 50mph, is that in all gears or a particular one?

Definitely not tyres. All gears over 50mph.
