Car constantly asking for S-PIN - but fails to connect

Featured Replies

Since yesterday my Kodiaq has been asking for my S-PIN when the touch screen launches. Enter PIN and it just sits there for ages then fails to connect. Have to hard reset the system (hold power for a while until it reboots) to get back to the S-PIN request again.

Able to tap back button and use system. Connect Services work fine.

Open App on phone and it says ‘Missing Data’ and fails to load my cars into. Also says a server error… but not all the time.

Anybody else having this issue?

I gave up on “connectivity” a long time ago.

Never saw a single plus point in it for me.

On top of the fact that VWFS / VAG just want to bleed us dry.  Like so many other sources.

Be good to get rid of this S-PIN issue each time I start the car.

And now since last night Skoda Connect / Care now works again. Must have been the server issues mentioned here:

And it's not working again. Car asks for S-PIN at each start up. If entered, it sits for ages and finally says 'Cannot Connect'. Have to Gard reset entertainment system. Skoda Connect website says last update 44 hours ago. Phone app also fails to get an accurate update... of course if the car isn't connected then they won't. Not sure of this is a server error or hardware/software issue with the car now.

What's your GSM signal like? I gave up on S-PIN and individual profiles due to the unreliability of the software, having spent too many journeys with no radio, media or nav because the ICE was stuck at 'Syncing' from engine start. My conclusion was that, as well as being generally buggy, a good GSM signal is key to ensure server response times, and ours is poor generally. The biggest personalisation feature for us is seat memory, and whilst it would be nice if this was reliably linkable to the key in use as it is supposed to be, I can live with pressing a button on entry, and without all the other personalisation stuff which requires profiles.

Hi, the mobile data signal is fine where we are, has worked well until a few days ago at home and also while away last week. Again, mobile signal was better where we stayed than at home. Services like news, weather etc all work perfectly well using the SIM I added for the infotainment services. The S-PIN issue appeared last week, started working for a day and has not stopped again so last update from the car was on 24th June and shows doors and windows open, range before I filled up with fuel etc.

Skoda want me to factory reset the infotainment and then connect the car to a mobile hotspot to set it up again... which makes no sense as the Care Connect will use the cars built in SIM/eSIM and not the one I added to the slot in the glove box. Also I can find no way to connect to my mobile hotspot as WLAN says its already connected...

You don't have your car in your profile so don't know how old it is, but your 'syncing' issue sounds a classic case of software needing updating. How old is your car? Have you had the latest software patch installed?

I had personalisation setup in both my old Octavia ( 2017 ) MIB2  and the Kodiaq ( MIB3 ). After the keys have been setup, I've never had an issue - each key has always retained it's settings. The trouble is with the latest MIB3, setting it up was just so unintuative. From memory I think I first needed to register each key user thru connect, but once setup, I'm not sure it uses connect or any external source? I don't think it does but someone with more knowledge than me may know.

I no longer subscribe to any connect functionality but the different keys have no issues knowing what they're supposed to do.

Car is listed under my Avatar... has latest software on the infotainment. Spoke to my dealer and there are a lot of back end issues with Skoda's services right now affecting random owners. Seems I am one.
