Roof bars and roof tent

Featured Replies

Hello! Does anyone know if the roof bars (bought from Škoda) for a 3 door 2012 Citigo would fit a 2018 5 door.... or have any experience of a roof tent on a Citigo?!

Welcome.

No idea but someone in the know might be along.

I see roof bars with a max 60 kg load and ones with a 75 kg max.

Skoda has the max load for the roof as 50 kg.

So bars and roof tent, lightest roof tent about 50 kg.    How heavy is the person / persons getting up there?

I see a Fjordsen Van 220.

Thankyou: That is promising, as that one appears to be on an Up and the description says "even on an Up".  I have found one at Tentbox which is 50kg and the manufacturers state it is fine for any car with a roof capacity of 50kg as the static weight limit will be 5x this.

If that's wrong, will the manufacturer pay thousands if the roof is damaged and needs replacing?

Just buy a tiny and ultra-light Quasar tent. Up in a couple of minutes, and far more wind/water/insect proof than any roof tent....  Saves fuel, and less to get damaged/stolen than something on the roof....

Without wishing to be discouraging, I have to +1 this idea.

I've seen loads of these, but usually on old Land Rovers. At least they don't tend to rock about in the night, given common nocturnal tent fun....

After they've had a few drinks, it's also a lot of fun watching the roof tent occupants brave getting out, to take a leak in the darkness!

Thanks everyone. I think my main motivation was being able to go in the van fields at festivals: realistically the idea of sleeping on top of my Citigo is quite ridiculous I can see now. Will carry on with Small Car And Tent and keep dreaming about being able to get a van.

It will save you money, you'll sleep better, and you'll not get a broken leg. :)
