Hello all, so the back box/silencer on my 2016 1.2 tsi skoda rapid needs replacing

Featured Replies

I have been quoted £400 for parts and labour but was advised by the garage to try and source one online, not having a great deal of luck finding one so I am asking for your help if you have sourced one previously or know of somewhere that's selling the one I need I would really appreciate youe help.

Is that a multi skinned exhaust box?

I see no black marks indicating an exhaust leak.

Is it noisy yet?

Yeah there's more damage on the bottom and the other side and it pops when the car is running.

The factory fit is double skinned and they all look like that after a few years. If its not blowing it will pass an MOT no problem.

Aftermarket exhausts are only single skinned so are noisier and don't last anywhere near as long.

Not sure what you mean by popping.

You'll have to be very specific as to which engine code is fitted. 1.2tsi could be the EA111 camchain 1.2TSI 63kW/77kW (CBZA, CBZB) or the later EA211 cambelt engine 1.2TSI 66kW/81kW (CJZC, CJZD)

If its any help I think the rear silencer part no is

6RA 253 609

but could have the suffix AB, AJ or AK depending on your engine. Not sure what the difference is

Try your local Skoda dealer to get a price, some dealers and specialists are on the internet eg https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/

I bought this rear silencer from Ebay a few months ago, after having spent ages trying to find something online like you did. My car is a 2014 Toledo 1.2tsi, cbzb engine; I suspect yours may be the later cjz. Obviously you'll have to pay to get it fitted too. Still, it works out way less than the £240 I was quoted for the main dealer part.

That's not the right number to go by.

If you sign up to this site Škoda spare parts online store (skoda-parts.com), you'd be able to input your VIN and have that filter the results to get you to the correct OE number.

Or you could message me with it, or post it here and I'll tell you.

Just had a chat with the local skoda dealers and they've told me the part number is 6RA 253 609 AA, so now need to find it

Did they give you a price? A shade under £360 for genuine. Not sure what you'll find on the aftermarket.

Are you sure it's leaking? I share others' doubts. Easy to be swayed by the visual appearance.

Yeah was quoted £357.60 so seems it's at least the correct part and price after what you just said, how would I know 100% if it's leaking?

It will be very loud all the time, I would say.

With the engine running put your hand ( inside a thick glove ) over the end of the exhaust.

If you have a leak you will hear it / feel it coming out of any other hole in the exhaust.

If the exhaust gases pushes at your hand then exhaust is still good.
