Octavia 1999 bonnet lock & cable setup

Featured Replies

Hope someone can help with how to correctly setup a bonnet lock & release cable to work correctly on a 1999 Octavia right hand drive car, problem i've got is my car has been in at a garage to have a new front panel fitted & the bonnet release cable is now linked up to the side of the lock for left hand drive, when i look at it they have managed to do this by the metal sheath on the end of the cable housing either being corroded or they have shortened it & forced the plastic retaining square over this to get it to go in to the side of the lock for right hand drive, now you might say simple answer is connect it to the other side as these locks have notches in both sides of the lever but this is where the other problem starts, for some reason that lock & another lock i have just bought for some reason only seem to want to open to the left hand drive side of the car & the lever does not want to move to the other side to allow the lock to open with the release cable connected from the side for right hand drive, this is really puzzling & don't know how to sort it out & connect it up & get it working correctly again, hope someone can help. please also see photo detailing problems & help me sort this issue out

The return spring on my Octavia Turbo has broken and I was trying to sus have the latch worked. Weird set up. The bonnet latch lock lever which is under tension of the spring is released by the outside sleeve of the cable.  Not by the internal wire of the release cable. The internal wire remains stationary as it is secured to the latch mechanism by way of a profile on the end of the wire and a plastic grommet. The plastic grommet fits into the square cut-out (bottom right) and allows the exterior sleeve to move through it and thus releasing the lock lever. Al I need is to find a replacement spring!

Yes i finally got this sorted after finding another post from someone with a broken cable & someone showing a photo of the correct way the cable hooks up, once seen this it all made sense, as for your broken spring don't know if it's possible to find a spring that will do the job & i don't think the spring is an available part, your best bet would be to just buy a new lock as they are not that expensive, i replaced my lock because the spring was rusted & stretched a little in one spot so thought best to change it before it snaps as it would of done eventually
