Skoda Octavia MkIII Washer problems

Featured Replies

My windscreen washers have stopped working but so have the headlight washers. I have checked ALL fuses, including 42 and they are all OK, from what I can see. The screen and headlights are on separate pumps but will the headlight washers not work if the screen pump has failed? Hope someone can help.

Hi, have you managed to sort this? I have a 2018 MkIII VRS and none of my washers are working. No noise from pump. I have tried replacing the pump and no change. After putting the new pump back on, shut the bonnet, the main washer work (still no headlight washer or rear). Would love to hear if you got it sorted please and what the problem was.

Yes. New pump fixed the front washers but back didn’t work until I put compressed air into the jet. Had to take car to my golf club to use their air line. Tried foot pump but not enough pressure. If you can hear the pump turning, you’ve got power to it. If no water coming out of front or rear jets suggest you might have a leak, air lock or both front and rear jets are blocked.

Happy you got it sorted. We tried a new pump but trying only changed the washer pump and not the headlight pump- still didn’t work. No sound at all when use the stalk. Might have to try both pumps and cross my fingers.

Yeh, replacing the screen pump fixed my headlight washer. Still don’t understand the logic but my experience suggests that the headlight pump relies on the washer pump running first. As I said, when I replaced the front and rear screen pump, the headlight washers worked. They didn’t when the screen pump broke. In the end, putting the high pressure air hose tight up against the rear nozzle unblocked it. I try to remember to use my rear washer once a week now purely to prevent it getting blocked. It’s a right faff taking the wheel arch liner out, isn’t it?

To be honest my brother did it all so just had the running to and fro getting the right parts! Will try the pump again. Does the same pump feed the front and rear? If that doesn’t work will have to check stalk and wiring although seems a bit dramatic for washers.

Also don't just use water in the system as the water more likely to stagnate and block the pipes.

Thanks. AG Falco

Yes, the pump I replaced had two outlets, one for front and one for rear washer. The headlights had a separate pump, which is why I couldn’t understand why the headlight washers weren’t working. Anyway, when I replaced the screen pump, the headlight washer worked. Still don’t understand why? I guess the ECU controls it?

To stop the headlamp washer motor from burning out you need water in the washer bottle.

The windscreen washer pump also need to work as well.

I'm having similar windscreen washer problems.

I've located and tested the pump that's in the LH wheel arch, and is located at the bottom of the screenwash reservoir.  I disconnected the supply to it and fed it with 12v - it burst into life.

What I'm struggling with is trying to locate the other pump.

Can anyone advise...please?

Many thanks.

From reading posts on here I gather there are two pumps: one for the headlight washer and one for the windscreen.
