How to go about buying a new Superb?

Featured Replies

I was also quoted 20 weeks for mine (ordered 2 months ago).

A colleague of mine order a Superb 280 Sportline in May and it was delivered in just over 12 weeks so fingers crossed the wait is not as long as the dealers state.

In my case I’m not in a hurry. I originally planned to order a new 280 in a couple of years, I’m only doing it now because it looks like it won’t be available in the 2024 lineup. In the mean time I have a perfectly good 280, with 96,000 miles on the clock but otherwise fully functional. The breakdown I think is 12-14 weeks for build , then 4-6 weeks for shipping over to UK. For the latter I think it’s just a matter of the timing, they collect a gaggle of cars and them ship them over en masse, so it depends on whether your car is first or last of the gaggle. So probably 20 weeks is the worst case, and more likely sooner.

How many constitutes a gaggle? I'm just 4 weeks into my wait but in my case there might be an extra delay while they mix the paint, gone for Royal Green and my Google searches have only found one car in that colour!

I was also thinking DragonSkin wouldn't have been the best choice for a quick delivery.

My colleague ordered the standard grey..

Well I went for the red which apparently is “exclusive”. But I really don’t think that affected the delivery time. Paint is just paint after all!

Paint colour is irrelevant to build/delivery times, modern vehicle paint shops can change the colour of every single vehicle on the line if that is what is required.

Take a look at the Czech Octavia website where you can select from a huge number of colours, you can scroll through the different colours using the arrows either side of the paint examples, in build the colours are changed automatically in the paint shop for each individual order. Simply Clever!

How many weeks do they have to stir it before they can spray it? 😄

Which is why whenever you see any films or documentaries, all the robots always start painting from inside the open doors, or from inside boot etc.  Just in case there is tiny bit of previous colour paint also sprayed, bits that will be covered up or not show

My comment was tongue in cheek based on the fact that when I Google for real world images of superbs in the new royal green  there's only one example to be found. That said it only became available about 3 months back so that could explain it.

The new paint shops aren't like the older shops where just one paint gun and line is used, it automatically selects a different paint gun that uses a dedicated paint line infeed so there can be no mixing or overlapping of paint colours at all. Simply Clever!

The shuts are painted first because that is the way us non robots spray vehicles, if you want to know why its done in that order then just try doing it the other way and the lesson will stick for life, I speak as someone who has learnt most things in life from mistakes!

My Ford XR4x4's from the late 80's had metallic paint but the lacquer was only applied to the outside, all the door shuts etc were dull matt base coat.

The robots were working to rule!!!!

Looks like I got in just in time. Configurator is now saying you can’t order a Superb.

I thought I'd stumbled across the same thing a week or two ago and reported the same on this forum. However it seems to be a glitch in the skoda website. Sometimes you see the stock only message, sometimes not. In any event it can't be much longer before they close the order book for good.

Looks like a new brochure has been issued 12th September 2023

When you go to the prices page, all specs are now marked from stock only
