Brake light lag

Featured Replies

Yo

My EPC light came on last night...usually that means my brake light switch messed up...and it did for a while, coz at night you can see the LED light hit the bottom of the rear window on the rearview mirror, and it was obviously not going on when i hit the pedal.

But then the EPC light went off...so I pressed the brakes...funny enough, the lights came back on, but this time it took a while for it to come on..like there was lag...sometimes for upto 1.5 seconds. At times it would come on instantly as normal, but most of the time there was this lag that was quite annoying and scary in fear of having any numnut tailgating me not hitting the brakes in time.

So when i got home, I checked to make sure I wasn't just seeing things, so I tried it again, and sure enough it was still there, with the lag.

I therefore tucked my foot under the brake pedal, kicked it a couple of times in slight frustration...and now it's working properly. :D

Any ideas?

The self adjustment of the switch is failing, needs a new modified switch.

Sounds like it time for a trip to the dealer to get a new switch - you should not really try to fix them as the design is crap and it will fail again, is it not just a bit worrying when you know that following traffic have not realised that you are slowing down - not healthy!

The switch can be found either on the brake pedal high up or mounted on the pedal box (I've forgotten which). Please for your and others safety get and fit a new one asap - find out how to fit and adjust it though as they are easily destroyed when fitting. I think that you might find tips on how its done on here somewhere.

The brake switch is behind / under the pedal itself. :)

Parallell to the floor around the pedals there is a plastic cover held on with 2 torx screws and is clipped in 2 places. If you remove this you will see the switch. Best get it looked at because it also works the transmission selector interlock and if it fails completely you will not be able to take it out of park.
