Clutch tick when depressed

Featured Replies

Only when cold, there is a loud, high frequency ticking sound coming from under bonnet when clutch is depressed. Obvious first thought is throw out bearing, but I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas? I can't understand why it goes when hot, as the bearing isn't in oil (I don't think). Also how urgent do you think this is, don't fancy taking gearbox off atm.

Cheers, George.

.

All I can say is mine has done this for years and years, on and off.   As you say when the clutch is depressed, there are five or six faint clicks or ticks.   Never had it looked at and doesn't seem an issue!

Thanks for the reply, that's good to hear, although mine does it a lot more then 6 times! Continuously until driven for a good 5 mins. Then sometimes doesn't even appear at all? Anyone else had anything similar?

Just incase anyone else had this problem, I decided to take the gearbox, the thrust bearing was shot and grinding down the clutch fingers. Replaced clutch and flywheel, all good now.
