According to Jurid on autodoc, the Octavia MK3 1.4 petrol 140HP has 288x25mm front brakes with build code 1ZE and 253x10mm rear brakes with build code 1KD.

Build codes 1ZE and 1KD are both TRW brake systems, so perhaps use TRW brake pads.

To search for front brakes pads 1ZE you can use OEM part number 8V0698151, and to search for rear brake pads 1KD you can use OEM part number 5Q0698451A or 5Q0698451M.

Thank You so much Carlston. Appriciate your knowledge and gesture to help. Thanks.

Hi

today I’ve just fitted new rear discs and pads and I used TRW. They look to be good quality better than the last set of rear pads which were Bosch.

cheers

All brake pads sold in Europe comply with ECE 90 regs so performance will always be broadly similar to OE. Ive used Bosch and Brembo with no issue, TRW are OE so should be OK.

I personally would choose a ceramic pad such as the ATE pads

I tend to just go with an OEM supplier. Febi/ATE/TRW, they always work well and are cheaper than the name brands. I used Brembo a lot about 10-15 years ago, but I found they went off in terms of performance over the years, not sure if they became a Eurocarparts label? I tried Eicher a while ago because they were cheap in ECP, took them back off again and chucked them in the bin.

I'd use any apart from an original or brembo pads, don't rate either. I changed my rear discs & pads a couple of weeks ago. The pics that @Carlstonhad kindly provided also show the spring clips on top of the pads, these hold the pads within their carriers. I just used a cheap set of british made OEM discs, cost be £20 each & a set of cheap pads at £16, I expect them to out last the original set that only lasted for 29k from new.

I’ve found trw to be the best having tried pagid, Bosch and brembo on the Octavia. Pagids delaminated and the brembos knocked about in the Caliper

Thanks All. Here in finland TRWs were lile just 14 euros whereas Bosch is around 25euros. Really surprized that most of you all experts suggested TRW over and above bosch / brembo. Will go with TRWs then. Thanks alot you all great people. Have a great day. Stay safe.

I have a similarly aged 1.4tsi Octavia and the last service suggested that brake pad wear had increased considerably since my wife uses the car for her commute. No surprise there :)

If I have to replace them (and probably disks) then it presents an opportunity to fit pads that produce less dust. The two Skoda I have owned were/are far worse for brake dust than any other British/Australian/Japanese/Korean car I've owned. The alloy wheels are usually filthy soon after being cleaned.

Are there any noticeable differences between the recommended brands for brake dust? If not are there alternate recommended brands?

Hello, I visited our big Auto part store in finland and they suggested Bosch, just went ahead with them and it just works fine. There are those Ceramic ones someone suggested, but those were not locally available and i didn't had time to order online.

I've replaced my discs and pads a few months back with brembo (used to be top quality) one of the discs was warped out of the box, and I've just had to replace the pads again the other day as they'd delaminated. Never getting brembo stuff again.

Seems you 'can't catch a brake' 😏

We received similar dealer recommendations on our previous mk2's rear brakes and they also mentioned the disks would need to be replaced. When I asked if they could machine the disks level, they actually laughed and said there was not enough metal on VW disks to do that.

Not sure how accurate that statement was but have you checked your disks to make sure they are serviceable enough for new pads?

  • 2 weeks later...

I was concerned that my recently acquired Octavia had only 4mm on the front pads, measured with the wheels on using a drill bit as a thickness gauge.

The service history suggests that the pads had only done 17k.

The pads were Brembo's.
