Key question...

Featured Replies

Been and done the stupid thing and left my key in my jeans pocket and shoved them in the washing machine like a complete muppet!

I got it out after a full 30º wash & spin and found it still works with the exception that the front has come away!

Is there a way to get that back in or do I need a new key shell? Or new key completely.

Been there, done that - with a 1GB USB stick - years ago when they cost £100! Thankfully it still worked too.

Anyway, as for the key, it will probably click back into place with a bit of pressure around the edge; tricky to do without pressing the buttons though.

You could try doing what I did. Get a key cover. Mine holds everything together nicely.

There are many on Amazon and other sites. Search on "key cover for Golf 8".

E.g. this one: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1174340326/key-cover-for-new-vw-golf-8-mk-8-skoda

or this: https://www.amazon.com.au/MELTSUN-Buttons-Keyless-Keychain-Volkswagen/dp/B09HJNKQR3

It was in a silicone key cover which I think is why it survived the daily 30° wash & spin cycle.
