Trip switch on wiper stalk not working

I’ve recently bought a vrs estate and the on board computer/trip isn’t working . The toggle buttons on end of stalk and also the ok button on the lower part of the stalk . I bit the bullet and ordered a new set of stalks and I’m having the same issue . Cars a none multi function steering wheel and also a 2010 model . I have got the esp light permanently on as I’ve an abs issue . Would that have anything to do with the stalk issue ?
