Swapped to Karoq from Kamiq.

Featured Replies

Just to let fellow Briskodians know that this week I acquired a Karoq to replace Kamiq.

My almost three years with the Kamiq were simply superb; what a brilliant car. Sad to see it go.

However, I'm fast approaching 80 now, so just fancied something different.

This is my third Skoda:

2005 Fabia VRS, Black Magic. What fun was had in that wee rocket.!!

2021 Kamiq 1.0 SE DSG, Titan Blue.  Smoothest car ever - and I've had 39.

2020 Karoq 150 SE Drive, Black Magic. Early days but initial impressions favourable. Not as supple as Kamiq but more than acceptable.

We are not yet ready to change our 2015 Fabia, but I always keep a look out for possible replacements. The Fabia is now just a little too low to easily get into and out of. I did look at the Kamiq - very nice! But still a bit low. Probably the VW T-Cross is my fave at the moment, chunky and it gets over the riding height problem.

I do love the Karoq, personally. My second Karoq, and I have never bought the same car twice. I do hope you enjoy your ownership.

fabill, you seem to be suggesting that the Kamiq has a better ride - interesting.  Any commsent about road noise, which is the quieter.

Yes I like the T-Cross appearance and also the fact it is taller than the Kamiq.  Always interested in what I might get next - eventuall.  I recently sat in a VW T-Roc - I much prefer the greater sense of space around the Karoq front interior, but the T-Roc pedals are arranged better, with somewhere to rest the right foot when the Adaptive Cruise Control does all the driving for you.  I'm not quite sure, but it seems that the T-Roc is now only available with with DSG box.  Not driven either VW nor Kamiq yet.

Hi. Our Kamiq was 2021, SE 1.0 DSG on 17", shod with Continental Ecorun. 205/55/17

On normal surfaces the ride was limo-like - I kid you not - with very little road noise. Had tendency to bounce a little on uneven roads. I've had 39 cars and the Kamiq was definitely the most refined of them all. How a wee SUV could be so is simply amazing.

Now, the Karoq. SE 1.5 DSG on 17" - Falken Zeix on front and Goodyear Efficiency on the rear 215/55/17. Slightly stiffer ride compared to the Kamiq. Nothing in it regarding road noise - both very quiet.  Definitely feels better 'planted' on uneven surfaces.

Summing up. I don't regret  swapping to Karoq; it feels a bit more 'premium'.  If I had to chose between the two however, I'd opt for the Kamiq. Of course, it's early days with the Karoq.

Update

50 miles today on twisty Scottish Border roads and stiffer suspension on the Karoq gives it the edge over the Kamiq re-handling.

I'd actually prefer to sacrifice a little handling sharpness for an even softer ride, not that the Karoq has a particularly hard ride, but it is a bit restless with mild thumping over ridges on broken road surfaces, even with my replacement 16" wheels & AW tyres.  I must try a Kamiq, even though it does have a lower seating position.

We’ve had a Karoq Sportline since April and the ride on the 19in OEM Bridgestones was horrid, felt every pothole, speed-bump and so on. Rather than accept advice on here, I decided instead to keep the Vega rims and fit Michelin CrossClimates and it transformed the ride instantly, chalk and cheese. Significant Others happy as well, so win-win 😄

Good to hear.

Nothing ruins the driving experience  quite like too stiff suspension and road noise. If combined, absolutely horrid.

We have both a Karoq and a Kamiq, I far prefer the handling of the Kamiq so my experience is different to yours.

For me it's only slightly in favour of Karoq. The Kamiq is more than competent.

To sum up. If the day ever came where the choice was limited to a Kamiq or Karoq I'd opt for the Kamiq SE with 17" wheels.

That's it!!
