Timing belt change no longer required at 5 years old?

Featured Replies

Skoda seem to have removed this requirement. That saves a lot of money!

There never was a requirement just their recommendation in the UK.

There are threads in about every section since this change came about in July.

It does not mean everyone with a keeper will not have a Cam Belt and tensioner replaced if they think it needs doing.

It's only Skoda recommendation that has changed, if it snapped they wouldn't repair or replace the engine for free. Unless you had an extended warranty that covered it whilst it was within official recommendations.

Shirley it's the whole of VAG UK?

Yes.

But the OP posted what they posted and that says Skoda seems to have removed the requirement.

The first posts on here were how VW had changed the advice, not the 'requirements'.

Just pedantic, but then VW, Skoda, SEAT, Audi UK are pedantic.

Thanks for that info. Think I was misinformed when I started the PCP and asked about the essential service items needed to maintain history.

Thank you to everyone who has replied to this.

That was Servicing to Manufacturers Guidelines, Recommendations or Schedules quite often before a car went back.

Oddly many a Skoda, VW. SEAT or Audi Approved used car with a Warranty were not Serviced to those T&C,s yet had a FMDSH.  A history of not all stuff done.

Unfortunately we need to keep on about this as many people don't realise the difference between "Full Service History" and what is actually required.  Some service staff are helpful but many (most?) are woeful.

Not sure.

Well very probably the VW Group brands, VW, Skoda, SEAT & Audi with TSI or TDI,s with Cam belts.

So is it all TSI / TFSI,s from all years, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, With or without ACT / COD.

Is it all TDI,s with Cam Belts & tensioners and is it leave the cam belt as is even if replacing a water pump.
