Rear Canton speakers replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all. I'm here for advice. As you probably know rear door speakers playing only mids and no base whatsoever on Canton system.

I bought a pair of coaxial 6.5 inch 2 ways Focal speakers and tried to change them today.

It plays only through tweeters on rear doors channels. I thought maybe speakers faulty so I checked them on subwoofer channel and they played only low base and tweeters was silent. I took front door card and hooked them to woofer channel. They played only mid woofers and again no tweeters.

I got JL Audio component speakers fitted in front doors and they seems to play ok but I took it to car audio specialist to fit them and didn't check how they connected. As long as I know it has to be through 1 channel both mid woofers and tweeters through crossovers.

So I came to conclusion that nothing is wrong with speakers because on different channels they play different, so issue has to be in Canton system.

Has anyone had this issue while changing speakers and is there any solution to this without changing factory fitted amplifier?

Thanks.

What ohm rating of speakers did you fit?

if they are not the correct resistance the canton amp will just shut down the channel as it thinks there is a fault

Speaking of speaker ratings for the Canton system in the Superb......

Canton is a full active system, so every chassis has his own processed (filtered, time corrected and equalized) signal. You cannot use coaxial speakers as there is no fullrange signal,

They are 4 ohm 2 way coaxial speakers. Same ohm as factory fitted.

I've tested mid woofers not coaxial ones and I still getting only mids and no base whatsoever.

And as I mentioned before in front doors I've got components. They connected to only 1 channel, woofer channel and tweeters through crossovers from woofer speakers. They playing perfectly fine, woofers are woofing and tweeters are tweeting.

On rear doors these new speakers playing through tweeters but they sound more like mids and woofer is silent. Tested them in my friends car and they played perfectly fine.

I just dont want to spend another £250 on half decent components.

What about tweeters sound quality? Did replacement produce clear and more live sound? I have canton standard setup and rear door department is sad... tweeters don't produce clear sound as it is in front and only mids coming out of woofers.

@Paikesejanku the sound should come from the front. You have the rear tweeters very close to the ears so it would distort the sound stage if they are too loud.

If you have Canton, the channels are filtered. So it simply cannot work. regardless if you take a coaxial or just a woofer. The signal is trimmed.

In front doors, if you have only 1 channel than you don't have Canton at all. with Canton the front doors are equipped with a woofer, a mid and a tweeter. All three are supplied with separate filtered channels.

My problem is that in backseat the sound is **** compared to front highs are lacking and bass is boosting when sound is set up for drivers like.. Luckily Škoda addressed this problem with facelift model. It sounds way better in backseat compared to pre facelift.

Then I’d suggest that perhaps there is something wrong with the DSP amp, as the sound in the rear of our Canton equipped car is great.

well, in the case you have passengers in the back you could activate dolby surround. far from optimal sound for the driver, but overall acceptable.

Have been listening different cars with canton, result was the same.

This is available starting from facelift. Not an option for first releases.

+1

The Canton sound is still great whilst sitting in the rear of my 2017 Superb.

I can also clearly hear audio coming out of both the top and bottom speakers of the rear doors.

My Canton Balance/Fader is set for centre/middle of the car interior.

Set it to rear speakers and turn off subwoofer. Then listen to the sound what comes out of rear only speakers.

Maybe it's just mine rear woofer speakers playing only mids and tweeters tweets.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

When set to rear, mine play only mids and tweeters lack of clear sound, dull output (compared to front speakers, sound set to front). It is not balanced in my opinion and experience with my car. But, at the end I have made compromise, when I am driving alone, my sub is set to 0, if I have back seat travellers I have to tune it down to -5. No chaneges to other parameters Surround is ~6, high +5, mid +1, low +9 (to have bass in front at least).
