Rear door lock replaced with strange result.

Featured Replies

Hello I've recently replaced a rear door lock to my octavia mk2, Everything seemed to go as planned however when testing the lock it won't actually lock the door and when I long press lock on keyfob the mirrors fold in all doors lock except the door with the new lock in and for some reason the window goes half way down on the same door.

I've checked all wiring looms which check out.

Does the lock require any setup with the computer or key fob or have I been unlucky and received a faulty part?

What was wrong with the old door lock or what was the symptom you were trying to solve.?

The old lock wouldn't open, which reading a forum on here is a common fault and thus needed replacing, I'd tried the fix from the handle but deduced to it being the lock itself.

OK. What I would suggest if you can is do a full scan with VCDS or ODB eleven and see what is recorded, if anything.

If you can't do that for the moment, I'd suggest you remove the lock or at least the handle cable to the lock and the door card and observe locking and unlocking it. Does it work as expected. Does it lock? You can usually test with a screwdriver or something to mimic the catch in the door. It maybe easiest to remove the lock from the car but leave the electrical plug connected. I suggest you try first with the cable to the lever unconnected. See if it will lock without the handle connected and outside of the car shackle / hook.

Was your new lock the exact same part number as the old one?

I had my driver's door lock replaced by a Skoda garage using an extended car warranty. But some of its feature such as the light at the bottom of the door card and the puddle light in the mirror did not initially work and had to re-programed in.

I suspect there may be some replacement door locks out there that are generic and must be programmed for your model/trim/features.

My car (without folding mirror) reacts to a long press on the open/close buttons on the remote by lowering or raising all the windows. Perhaps another sign of re-programing required on your new lock or the controller in the drivers door.

Someone with VCDS will be able to help. [See the forum pages on VCDS to find someone near you].

Those things requiring configuration coding to enable, yes. But not configured with the lock itself i dont believe.  I don't think the op's issues will relate to coding. A good question though asked, what is the source / brand of the new lock?

The point I was making is all those functions worked on the old lock but had to be configured again with the new lock in place. Somehow the previous configuration had been lost. The garage could not answer "why?" either.

If they changed the door control module or adjusted any coding in convenience  then maybe re-coding required. The loss of puddle lights or card lights, could simply just of been a case of a missed connector left unplugged on re-assembly!

But anyway, we digress, back to the OP'S issue of locking / unlocking - no coding is required to my knowledge. It wasn't required when I replaced a lock in the MQB / mk3 platform either.

Hi thanks for you're replies I've managed to get to the bottom of it, My bad luck the new lock was faulty got the replacement stuck it in and bingo all working fine and has also just passed mot for £40 not bad for an mk2.
