T Gloss paint coating, is it worth it?

Featured Replies

A dealer has recomended using T gloss (sort of teflon) coating on a new car. Is it worth it ? I have spoken to the manufacturer & it appears to reduce cleaning as no waxing is required, in fact if you wax the car this will actually be detrimental to the coating, also detergents in car washes dont do it a lot of good. I quite like to give a car a good clean & wax occasionally & find it hard to believe that this sort of coating will leave a car in showroom condition (as claimed) 3-4 years later.

I have found using a good aplication of Swissol wax on a regular basis keeps a car looking better than new.

anyone any thoughts/advice

The evidence in favour of these treatments is inconclusive at best. Far better save your money and follow your own advice , ie regular washing and waxing with good quality materials , that should ensure your car stays in good condition.

Stuart,

I posted a while ago in 'My Maintenance' about Supagard. It's probably a very similar product to T Gloss. Check everyone's replies to that.

I've decided against it.

I find you cant beat a bit of elbow grease.

I dont see how this teflon coating can protect the paintwork from pollutants in the air and the fading effects from strong sunlight.

A good wash every couple of weeks and a polish, using a good quality wax every couple of months or so, is all you need to do.

...now back to the kitchen to wax the omelette pan... :D

Keep your thoughts coming, not exactly a massive response in favour to date (Thanks also to Rich1068) looks like its going to possibly be a Wax Wizzard full monty & then a regular waxing, might even ask the Wizzard his opinion of the coatings, should be interesting !!

I notice that Studioman is online at the moment. He had Supagard. Chris, your thoughts?

IMO the best car preparer in the UK, he does cars for the likes of JK & has done some of the Bond cars for the movies. One guy even flies him to germany to prepare his show car. he will spend the best part of a day on one car & the results are stunning. if you want any more recomendations post questions on Scoobynet or the TT forum or call me on 07799 623693.

He has a very strong tie with Swissol & has helped develope some of the formulas
