Lack of power

Featured Replies

2018 Kodiaq auto petrol.
I have a problem with ‘lag’ when trying to get the car moving.
Everything appears to be working when starting the car and moving off, but take up is slowly getting worse.

Is this a software problem?

Unlikely in my opinion.  Did this start with a sudden change or has it been a gradual worsening from normal?

@WggWhich size of petrol engine & how many miles has the car done?

Thanks for your interest, it’s been noticeable for quite a while, but of late it’s become annoying. Lack of power is very apparent when going up hills. Kick-down does help in these circumstances, but should I have to adapt this manner of driving?

Car is a 1.4 petrol and has done 38000 miles with full services.

What have the Full Services consisted of other than Oil & Inspection Servicing and the Extended Scope.

Have the spark plugs been replaced, has the Air Filter been checked or replaced?

The DSG is not due a OIl Service if it is a DQ381.

Has the Haldex (4x4) Service been done in 2021 or since, @ 3 years or 30,000 miles or sooner.

Hi

Services have been as per requirements, Advised Haldex to be done at next service.

I rely on Skoda to advise anything above and beyond the standard service requirements. I brought this ‘problem’ to Briskoda in the hope other members may have experienced something similar.
One suggestion ( not from this site ) on a ‘cure’ was to turn the ignition on, without starting the car, and press down on the excellerator for 20 seconds.

Not being a trained car mechanic, I have not tried this suggestion, as I do not have any idea what would happen internally to correct this problem.

@Wggwere the spark plugs replacement advised and done?

Do you know if the Air Filter has even been looked at?      Good that you go to a good place that has Service Desk staff that knows what is part of keeping a car running well.

PS

I do not think that DIY DSG reset will do anything, but then trying will do no harm.

It is actually not just a 20 seconds, but then the many videos show you what to do.

Try couple of tankfuls of premium 99ron super unleaded (E5 not E10).  It will burn hotter and help clear any grot around the valves and turbo.  Possibly turbo is bit caked up and not spinning freely.

But perhaps a full service, including spark plugs will help, but beforehand have a look at the oil on the dipstick, is it looking more like dark treacle than golden honey, sure sign that deposits have built up.  A common problem with poorly stored petrol (the biofuel degrades over time).

Just an update regarding this original post.

Full service has certainly improved this problem, the ‘lag’ has gone. Overall I am very satisfied with the car now.
I followed advice originally regarding the fuel and that went very well.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
