Replacing the Mechatronic Unit

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My car is out of warranty and after driving for a while a message saying "Gearbox in emergency mode no reverse gear" and after inspection my dealer told me that it's the Control module in the Mechatronic unit and it would cost $4100 to replace, which is too much.

I'm a handy man with a lot of tool and I'm looking to do it myself Where can I found a video or instructions on how to remove The Mechatronic Unit for Skoda Kodia?

Thanks

Erwin

You need special tools to refill the gearbox afterwards, as well as the exact workshop manual to help set the finger positions and such.

Regarding replacement, why replace instead of sending it away for a repair?

Doing a mechatronic replacement is something that I would put above the classification of most handy men and just having tools.

Not to mention it will require a diagnostic reset as well as adaptations running afterwards.

@rochdiwelcome.  Are you in Australia.  Which engine so which DSG?   A DQ381?    You might find the other  owners with them and an issue and if in Australia than Skoda /VW know of faults.   There are LEMON laws there I believe.

Hi, I'm having similar problems with my 2019 Kodiaq my car is currently in at Elite Euro Wangara Perth. Still waiting for the quote but told it will be approximately $5k. I'll probably go ahead and let then do job as my car is only 3 months out of warranty. I could have chance a policy claim for a percentage of the repair bill from Skoda.

Welcome.

What about the Lemon law in Australia.

There are quite a few failures in an out of warranty.  Maybe time VW Group own up to Fundamental Design, Manufacturing or Material Faults.

just to add to this, my 2018 Kodiaq mechatronics has failed at 30000kms. NZ$5K (includes labour) to fix.  Curious if anyone knows if anyone has successfully had Skoda replace it after warranty expired.  NZ's consumer guarantee act comes in to play (Aussies Lemon Law) but not really up to getting a lawyer involved.  Thinking about how to use the act to persuade Skoda to fix it.

Yep, mine failed at around 78,000km / 3.5yrs ... just out of warranty.  Think original offer was a percentage of parts & labour from Skoda/dealer.  They ended up coughing up the whole lot due to parts delays then a workshop move which meant further delays.  Loan car provided the entire time (3 months from memory).  I'd just ask the question as pretty sure they moved to a 5 year warranty towards the end of 2018 & it's not like they haven't seen the issue before.

Cheers for that. Actually the repair is $6500. Will push skoda under the act here in NZ. Seems a well known fault so the product is not fit for purpose and has failed the durability expectation.
