Alcantara Wheel for late 2018 Sportline

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I know this topic has been covered a few times but I’ve come up against a slight issue. I have a 272 and it comes with the perforated leather wheel. I’d like to fit the alcantara wheel which has a part number 565064241A GCW.

I thought it go through my local skoda dealer as I’d seen some others have done. They were indeed cheaper than the link above, but the parts manager said this wheel is listed as only applicable until week 26 2018 build date. My car was built around week 40 2018.

From what I can see on other cars online, my wheel looks identical to 2016 and 2017 sportlines, but the parts manager confirmed a different listed part number for a sportline steering wheel when we checked the reg number of another car.

Has anyone experienced a change in steering wheel spec in mid 2018? If so, what changed? I really want to change the wheel but don’t want to fall into a daft mistake where a connector has changed or something like that.

cheers all

I believe the airbag was changed at this point.

Before end of 2018 the airbag had a shorter upper section of the cover and the steering wheel had a thicker upper area of where the airbag would butt up against.

After end of 2018 the upper flap was about twice the length and the steering wheel had a much skinnier upper area.

you can fit either steering wheel but may have to replace the airbag also.

Thanks for this info, it’s not something I would have expected!

So my wheel, if it’s the updated one, should look like the one on the right with a deeper airbag top section, whereas the wheel I’m looking at needs the thinner one?

I’ll definitely check this this afternoon.

it’s probably worth mentioning that my car isn’t a facelift model and the front of the wheel looks identical to the one pictured in the link.

Yeah it was fitted pre facelift too (also for heated steering wheel airbags) all used the 'facelift' airbag. The face of the wheel looks exactly the same.

I know someone with a pre facelift airbag that may sell it seperate to the steering wheel if youre interested.

Looking at my wheel it is definitely as you’ve shown. If it was the other way around the bag would fit but assume since I have the bag with the larger back it won’t.

How much would your friend be asking? I have seen a few pre facelift bags on eBay for not scary money so that’s always an option.

Definitely the airbag on the right!

So I’ll pull the trigger on the new steering wheel and go on the hunt for an airbag as well. Thanks for your help.

Finally got this over the line, I know some people don’t get the alcantara thing, but feels mega to me. Thanks to @Dahmich and @ApertureS.
