DSG stalling & Jerking

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have searched the forum to find if anyone has resolved the following issue but to no avail.

I bought a 2015 Octavia VRS DSG a few months ago from a private seller. It has recently started to stall on the odd occasion. I have noticed this happening more in ECO mode than normal or sport for some strange reason. I have the battery replaced but this still happening.

The other issue I have is I am starting to notice the car jerking or trying to go into limp between 2-3k revs. I drive regular on motorways atleast 70 miles with local driving also.

I have had the car full serviced with the Oxygen sensor changed as that was the only fault that showed up. There are currently no lights on the dash.

Any ideas guys, I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks

Welcome.

Hopefully someone will be along that can help on the engine.

How many miles has it done?

Did the seller maybe get rid because of the issue after visiting an Automatic Gearbox Specialist?

?

What servicing has the DSG had.  It is a DQ250 and due oil and filter changes @ 40,000 mile intervals.

How the dsg works and why those services are important

The car is on 120k. It has full dealer service from Skoda with gearbox oil change at 110k and timing belt done.

Thank you for this. I'll give it a watch.

It's a diesel then?

In what circumstances is it stalling - what's going on at the time?  It happening in Eco suggests to me it might be happening on coasting (so the DSG isn't keeping the engine revs up).  Does it stall at tickover, while stationary?

And to get an obvious question out of the way, it's not the stop-start simply doing what it's supposed to?

On what equipment did the 'fault' show up on? (This question will be irrelevant if it was at a Skoda main dealers).  Some simple code readers might not necessarily see all the codes.  Someone near you with VCDS might be able to check if there are any other tell-tale signs:

Yes it is diesel. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

It never stalls stationary or after ticking over. Mainly after driving off or slowing down it after driving 40mph. It just turns off and says restart vehicle manually.

No,  it's definitely not the stop start.

Thank you for the list. I think that's the next step to take it to a specialist.

I can't help with the problem, but if it's completed 110k miles before a DSG service there could be gearbox problems in the mix. DSG are advised to be serviced every 40k but of course, that depends on its type of driving beforehand.

I'd look at getting soot values measured for the DPF. It's not unusual for DPFs to start to fail and clog causing consistent regenerations, poor fuel economy and running. You might find that the oxygen sensor has failed in relation to this. I am no mechanic but they are well known for DPF issues.
