Citigo rear number plate light

Featured Replies

Good evening

as my number plate light was dangling, I thought I would upgrade it to an L.E.D. one .

it arrived today I tried to fit it but the wires was just stuffed in the terminals .

and then fell out .

there are three wires ?

does anyone know what the colour codes for the wires ?

and what is the third wire is for ?

A photo might help.

Is it not a W5W-type fitting? - I don't recall...  I have LED versions on mine and they are fine.

These are 2-wire, but usually have each wire folded up on the base.

no just two

Seems strange to me. Has a previous owner added something electrical in the past? Are you certain this wire came off the number plate bulb assembly? What happens when you check all combinations of the three wires against each other and to earth with a voltmeter, when you turn the lights on & off?

That is what i am thinking.

the blue and white is negative the red and yellow is positive the third wire?

i have added some spade connectors and heat shrinked them up seems to work now  .

thanks guys .

yes but what turns on and off with headlight switch?

just the usual (rear lights and the number plate light)

I assumed that, but I meant on the piece of loose wire!

looks like the numpty before me ,

has added some wire to the light .

i have just found some twisted wires taped up poorly further down the cable .

so it not original cable .

just some ones bodge .

From the wiring diagram it's 2 wires, earth being pin 1

So, for the OP, there is no reason to not have a nice LED number plate light, like many of us have fitted - how's it going now that the "extra cable distraction" has gone away? :)
