CAN-BUS setup?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently had installed an Android touchscreen in my Skoda Fabia III from 2017. Now I have discovered that the guy who did the installment did not, however, do the CAN-BUS setup. So the screen is not communicating with my car... Can anyone help me with finding the right CAN-BUS (or CAN-BOX?) settings for my Skoda? In the settings on the screen there are a lot of different types to choose from, and I have no idea which type is the right one. They are all combinations of letters and/or numbers...

Thanks and all best!

Why do you think the screen should communicate with the car? What is not functioning?

"Communicate with" infers a 2 way dialogue, sending and recieving information, my experience of 2 non Android head units is that they take information like vehicle speed, door open signals, reverse gear selection, heater control settings  etc etc and use them for the display but the unit does not send information to the vehicle.

I have never had to make coding changes for the unit other than deleting the old unit from the Can Gateway installation list to avoid the fault codes showing the vehicle cannot find the old unit.

Hi and thanks for replying.

You are absolutely right that communication is a two way process and I can see that I didn’t explain my problem correctly. What I meant was that I can’t access the data that in the old radio could be accessed via the “Car” button. That is car data such as tyre pressure management for instance. I am no expert at all but I got the impression that this might be because the new screen has not been told what car it has been installed in (via the CAN-BUS setup). But I might be wrong. However, I think I will try to ask the manufacturer of the screen as this is maybe something that is different from device to device.

There will be a menu offering a choice between different Canbus protocoles, you will probably need a factory code to access it, dont make any changes unless you are really sure.

It should be correctly programmed if you bought a unit sold for your vehicle, they are all identical inside, they simply change the factory programming for the various maufacturers, there is a list of literally thousands many I have never heard of, the other thing that may change is the faceplate to fit in the aperture.

Mine is correctly programmed and functioning as it should but only displays limited vehicle data, door open visuals etc, there will be small print in the advert saying that not all the functions supported or shown in the photos will be available on all vehicles.

If it comes up on the Maxidot screen does it matter?

Hi Britta

Did you solve this issue?

I have the same issue, new radio installed, by a friend, I am not sure of the CANBUS, but I can controll by the steering buttons, show information on the car, not the radio.

Have no control for TPMS, light and other that I had on the old swing radio.

But cannot see anything on the radio, I can access the can type, but Skoda is not here, and Fabia combi 3 either. I have some VW to choose from, but which one is close to my car - Skoda Fabia Combi 3 - 2016?
