Buying Skoda Octavia 1.5 TSI

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am in the process of buying a new car and it will most likely be an Octavia 1.5 TSI. I have a few questions related to the accessories of the car.

1. How does the 15mm lower chassis perform? Especially in the case of snow, ledges or other slightly higher ramps.

2. Is driving with aluminum pedals more comfortable versus ordinary ones?  Do they deel different to use? Is pressing on the clutch heavier (manual)?

3. Is "choice of driving profile" upgrade even usefull in manual?

Welcome.

?

What model / trim are you looking at that is 15 mm lower than another model?

What size wheels and tyres has it got on it?

Thank you :)

15 mm lower than basic model Octavia (limo).

17" wheels. Pulsar Aero.

Wheels: 205/55 R17*

Are you looking at a Mk4 Octavia, or a Mk3?

A mod might move your post to the Mk4 Section if one of these.

What is the actual Octavia model coming on that size of wheels / tyres?

Curious questions 🤔

1)  It will perform 15mm closer to the snow, ledges and slightly higher ramps.  But you may have mitigated that by being on 55 profile tyres rather than, say, 40 profile tyres.  What suspension you have will also be a factor - 15mm lower could mean (or might not) it has independent rear suspension, rather than a torsion beam.

2)  This will surely depend on what footwear you use.  Barefoot I could see metal pedals being less comfortable than rubber ones.  I wear steel toecapped DM boots, and in a blind test, would most probably not be able to tell the difference.  The type of pedal covers you choose will not affect the clutch pedals resistance.

3)  Yes.  Whether you like it, or use it is completely subjective, and personal choice/opinion.

What you need to actually look at with the Official Figures from the manufacturers is, is it the roof 15mm lower on the SPORTS suspension or the 'Clearance' they give being 15 mm less.

Reason being they sometimes are giving Clearance figures, but that is like with a 'GREENLINE' Model with different models.

They had Fabia vRS / Monte Carlo on SPORTS suspension and when you wanted the Option of actual Sporty springs it was then Lowered at the PDI and Eibach springs fitted.

The Scala was or is supposedly available with Rough Pack in countries which are not the UK and 15 mm higher.

There are models where the Rough Pack fitted give less clearance and if you check they have the same height ground to roof.

That under protection is getting scrapped in circumstances maybe.
