Timing belt

Featured Replies

This has probably been asked numerous times but what is the service interval for the timing belt on the 1,5 engine. Seems to be a lot of conflicting info. Thanks

Hello @Doofy No longer the five years that Skoda UK were quoting up to around July this year. Now in line with VAG recommendations. You should be able to see latest recommendation on cambelt threads.

Seen various statements saying 5 years and some 10 years. Skoda want to make their minds up

The threads that have posts on Timing Belts in 2023 nearly all have the update from July the 1st 2023 where VW Group UK / Skoda changed the 5 years / 50,000 mile,

recommendation / guidelines, as it never was a Schedule, just the UK different from other European or EU Counties Dust Free.

People are still asking is it also Cambelts & Waterpumps in TDI,s that are no longer at 5 years / 50,000 miles and Skoda CS / Bots say it is all engines.

So inspection at 15,000 miles or change at 10,000 miles? Don't think i'd like to take the risk of leaving it that long.

Is that a Typo and you meant change at 100,000 miles not 10,000 ?

No idea how many miles you do annually, so how long / years until you do or have an inspection.

Sorry, read it wrong, 10 years not 10,000 miles. I only do about 5000 to 6000 miles a year, Had an 05 Octavia TDI and that was every 4 years, Has timing belt technology improved over the years meaning it can be left longer?

Timing belt life is very variable between brands. Some Stellantis (PSA) cars had a replacement interval of 120,000 miles dating back to 2010. The newer 1.2 petrols have a lower initial replacement mileage of 60,000 miles, but this is due to the bands running in oil, although the subsequent change is at ~100,00 miles iirc.
