What glue to use when bits fall off your car

Featured Replies

You know the rubbery stip things that run along the doors of cars?

Mine are falling off and I was wondering if there was a good type of glue I could use to keep them on.

Also the make-shift wire coat hanger that is holding the bumper on (was a tempoary solution over a year ago) is starting to rust and I am worried the bumper will fall off. The spoiler is also loose.

As Vlad's MOT is getting worryingly closser I am wondering if I am best starting to pay out for dragging him through, or just get a new one.

The hot glue gun things will do your door strips just fine , and a new coat hanger should be cheap enough :D

The second hand value of your car is roughly equal to the cost of the fuel and the tax disk (sorry , but it is) so I wouldn't spend too much money on keeping it going.

Take it for the MOT and if it passes , great. If not then a low mileage Felicia can be had for a few hundred quid.

Oh , and take it a couple of weeks before it's due so you can get a replacement sorted while it's still legal to drive and if it passes you can get the extra added onto the new certificate.

polyurethane adhesive. Comes in tubes like silicone sealant, and is very good as its flexible but also strong. Need a skeleton gun to apply it though. And once its on your hands the only way to get it off is wait for the skin to die and fall off.

There's different brands of PU glue - puflex is one I remember, Tiger Seal too.

Spot the person who has glued their car together on many occasions ;)

You could replaced the coat hanger with cable ties. they wont rust and will allow you to pull it nice and tight.

Door handle covers re-stuck on with it

Boot spoiler stuck on with it

Panel on front bumper stuck on with it

Thanks I will look into that tomorrow.

Tie wraps are already being used to hold other bits of the car on.

Don't use French Glue. That's why French cars fall ot bits...It's the Glue....:D

Dont knock glue - as I always say, the VX220 and Elise chassis are glued.
