Does anyone know where I might be able to get the 40% split seat base cover as a friend of mine who is now castrated burnt a hole in mine

You could go for a second hand one, though you take a chance. Try a specialist Skoda breaker, there is a good one in Poole (not sure if I can say the name as it is advertising), you could try a web based parts service such as Find a Part. The only drawback is that they may want to sell you a complete interior. In any case be specific with the condition and description of the part and don't forget to include the interior code for your car.

Other alternatives are to go for a 'Smart' repair, or take the seat to an upholsterer for a more comprehensive repair such as re-newing a panel or adding a factory look alike seam through the damaged area.
