Steering Wheel Sensor G250 VCDS fault code suggestions

Recommended Posts

I have a fabia 07 1.2 with the power sensor fault.

Address 44 Steering Assist Component Lenkhilfe TRW coding 10140 v270

30-10 Open or short to plus

I have checked continuity of cable cleaned plugs with Isopropyl.

Checked battery voltage (12.5 without alternator). Is only a 40ah battery but battery seems to keep charge. Although visible dimming on headlights when turning power steering.

Removed sensor (to figure out part no) which is:

6PD 008 847 00 or 6Q0423445

Symptoms: occasional loss of power steering and fault code persistence.

My question is does this sensor ever fail - as circuit board looked pretty sealed and clean or is it always more likely a failed pump? Or something else I could have missed?

Here is some more information:

Turning steering wheel I get no changes in Steering Aid Sensor angular velocity:

Steering aid sensor voltage too low:

Pump voltage increases when turning steering

Fault code shown: (Also clear no voltage):

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XUJ0iTY5T4hL7CrgCcfjjkv3mfyKd5Bv/view?usp=sharing

So the question is, do these symptoms suggest a failed sensor or pump or can they be symptomatic of both?

I would think it's worth trying another sensor before looking any further, since you've checked the wiring (presumably not seeing any signs of water ingress or corrosion at either end of cable?)

Thanks for reply.

Ok cool re sensor, I ordered one last night but was trying to do some early prep in case it's the pump (or for when that arises...).

Don't suppose you can get a pump part number from VCDS? I was lucky getting the sensor part number tbh. Or maybe I can get a pump to match the sensor?

There were signs of some water near over the pump connectors but I cleaned them thoroughly with isopropyl and compressed air - and no corrosion at all.  The angular sensor and the void was clogged a bit with limescale though.

The only other electrical fault is a HVAC 01317 Control Module in Instrument Cluster and a temporary shaking speedo at zero (for 20's) - I am going to check the main earth points but think its unrelated to this issue.

Obviously will update my findings.

Pump part number is shown on your last image 6Q0423156AB.

I think the bits where it says reference voltage too low are a red herring, only relevant if the steering were the Koyo version which has a four-wire G250 sensor and a reference voltage associated with that.

Slip Ring   =    Type 2
Software Level     =       SW 0111
Variant   =  Highline
Steering Angle Sensor = NO
LIN Version = 2.0
Notrs =#2

Steering Wheel Control Module Versions for Volkswagen
(Ross Tech information)
 A hyphen or "-" means No
 TBD: We do not have information on the configuration at the present time.
 Slip Rings
o Type 1: 1K0-959-653 and 1K0-959-653-A
o Type 2: 1K0-959-653-C and 1K0-959-653-D
 Software Level
o This can be checked in the Component Field of the Open Controller
Screen
 Variant
o Lowline: No additional Options/Features
o Midline: Cruise Control, Board Computer
o Highline: Cruise Control, Board Computer, Multi-Function Steering
Wheel
 Steering Angle Sensor
o Yes: The Steering Angle Sensor (G85) is installed directly at the Steering
Wheel/Slip Ring.
o No: The Steering Angle Sensor (G85) is part of the Electro Mechanical
Steering Assist.
 LIN Version
o The LIN version number should be shown
o - means that LIN is not supported by this controller
 Notes:
o #1: Does NOT allow Cruise Control Retrofitting, in such a Case you need
to replace the Steering Wheel Control Module.
o #2: Manual Transmission only, does NOT support Ignition Key Lock.

Ok im sorry

Not a problem just a different sensor and a different strategy. Hence new topic. Regards.
