Hi Everyone,

 

Please excuse my ignorace on the subject but I would love some help advice if at all possible. I recently encountered som pothole issues on my 2012 Skoda Fabia VRS estate and am now at the point where i either need to repair/replace the alloys. The wheels I bought the car with is in the image below but I can't for the life of me find the same wheels anywhere online (ebay, breakers yard etc).

 

I guess the help/advice/hand holding on is the following:

 

What type of wheels are these/what should i be searching for?

If i just want a set of solid replacement wheels that arent fancy but will hold up driving on country lanes what would you go for?

Is there any wheel sets for other skoda models that I could be looking for to widen my second hand alloy search? If so would I have to inform my insurance company with the change of wheels (i.e if i bought a set of fabia monte carlo wheels, would they be considerd like for like?)

Those look like Mark 1 Octavia VRS wheels.

 

17" is too big for a car driven on B roads, the tyrewall is too shallow, I use 15" wheels for this very reason.

Thanks for the info! What would be the best way to find out what type of wheels the 2012 Fabia VRS Estate have been fitted with orignally? Would they have been 15/16"? I guess if i do go for smaller wheels it makes sense to try and match them back up again with the correct alloys!

What does it say on the tyre pressure sticker plate?

205 40 17 does come up as an option.

MkII vRS Fabia's were all fitted with 17" rims from the factory none of which are what's on your car. There were four styles; all Gigaro's with different colour options.

Mk2 Fabia vRS were fitted with 17" Gigaro in Black, Dark Chrome, White or Silver. Hatch Back & Estates, 2010-2014/15.

 

The Dark Chrome are terrible for getting White Worm / corrosion and often were powder coated or painted. Often black.

When i did ones i left the Diamond cut edge if in good condition. 

 

Monte Carlo,s got Trinity that looked a bit like them but no diamond cut rim and grey not metallic black / grey.

Some Monte Carlo did get Gigaro as there were wheels stolen and also a Trinity shortage. 

 

Standard Tyres, 205/40 R 17 XL.

 

Some fitted 215/40 R 17 as the top picture.

Or 205/45 R 17 as the bottom.  Good for winter with the right tyre type. 

 

The White ones here are on the S2000 as they called it and many advertise as vRS / S2000, but they were all green with the sticker kit.

3 Briskoda members owned this green vRS with these wheels on.  I would be putting on similar. 

or going with 16" alloys and tyres with more sidewall.

 

Declare the change of wheels / tyres, say Winter Wheels.   

 The Blue vRS is on 17" Borbet alloys. 

Sorry Rooted - Do you mean you have come across 3 previous members on here who have owned my exact car?  Or am i getting the wrong end of the stick and you've advised 3 other owners in simlar positions to me and you advised going back to the 17" Gigaros?

 

I am tempted to move down to the 16" or 15" to help with ride and save the wheels over the country roads - Would everyone advise the normal 5 spoke secondhand MK2 skoda wheels for this like the below?

The way I read it is he knows that three people have owned the green Fabia in the picture he posted which wouldn't surprise me. So owner 1 put those wheels on it then it was sold twice with the same wheels on it. He's also saying he'd put the same wheels on yours or putting on 16" rims. I don't know what size those wheels are but maybe George does. 

 

I'd also consider 16" rims with more sidewall if you use a lot of B roads or even if you use many A roads given how bad the roads have become. The 17" rims were too firm a ride in the vRS IMO but that's what people wanted back in 2010 or so.

Thank you everyone for all your help - All very helpful & illuminating for a dummy like me.

 

Just one final question: from your own opinions, if we were to sell the car down the line would having 16" wheels have an effect on the/lower the price over original 17"?

 

For various reasons out of my hands we may need to sell on in 6-8 months so could grit through on some oringnal 17" that I've found if it's better to sell on with them, but if it won't make a difference we may bite the bullet and take the bigger expense of shifting to some MK1 16" wheels.

I doubt very much that a nice set of 16" alloys and good tyres would mean you getting any less than if it was 17" fitted.

Any buyer has more things to concern them when buying a Twincharger than that, and if they want an estate there are not that many to choose from.

Would you consider a set of refurbed, gunmetal sprayed MK1 Vrs alloys at "nice set"? 😂
