Assigning different phones to each user.

Featured Replies

My wife and I both use the car, each with our own key.  I am primary user. However, when we are both in the car together, it always chooses her phone in preference to mine, even if I have used my key to open the car.  Is it possible to set the phone/car up so that it connects to my phone when using my key and my wife's phone when using her key?

Is your phone device 1 in the list?

Yes, I can manually select my phone on the drop down if the car has selected hers.  However that only selects mine for calls.  Hers is still connected to android auto for maps. Spotify etc.  I can't stop that.  On my own, mine connects fine to android auto etc, it's just that hers overrides this when we are both in the car.

So yours is the first in the list?

Not sure (she's not here at the mo) but I think hers is first in the list when both are connected.

Typo

That is my thinking.

Device one could be the phone the car looks for first, carrying on if not present to device 2.

Another option to cure it could be your wife turning blue tooth off when you are together in the car.

Tried turning Bluetooth off on her phone, but it automatically reconnects straight away!

I don't understand how the phone connects if it's bluetooth is off.

The car should have a list of telephones in it's memory, the one rememberedd as device one is always the main telephone.

Re Bluetooth. We switch it off on the phone but it then automatically switches back on and immediately reconnects to the car. I don't know why it does that. It's as if the phone thinks the car is some kind of priority connection.

I will see if I can change the settings so my phone is first in the list. Thanks for your help 🙂

Whilst reading that owner manual i couldn't find any settings in the car that are assigned to the Key.

Should there be a Mykey feature?

Did you manage to solve the problem? I have the same problem with the order of connecting the phones

That's really strange that her bluetooth switches on when she enters the car on its own.  Maybe the settings in her Bluetooth is for autoconnect (if that is a thing), so that when she is in the car it switches back on and connects automatically and prefers her phone,  not really sure.

All I know is that my experience had been that I have a similar thing happen with me and my wife in terms of connection when we are together in the car and just relying on Bluetooth connection.

Her ios would be connected and used in preference to mine even though my one is the primary devise (I'm pretty sure of it.

i noticed only if i connect mine with a chord will it choose mine over her one. It could be the vpn on my phone that causes the issue, I find it interferes with android autoconnect, it does not work well with it on, it gives me a message to turn it off,  when I turn the vpn off it's better for my Android generally, but together i haven't properly tested it to see if it makes a difference.

As I understand it, Android Auto (may be the same for Carplay) connects to the car using WiFi for the initial connection BUT uses Bluetooth for music streaming. So turning Bluetooth off is only a temporary state until the phone connects to the head unit.

I have similar issues in that my son's phone connects in preference to mine even though my phone is listed as the first device.
