Accelerator pedal goes dead for 2-3 sec, post Auto Start/Stop "starting" car

Featured Replies

Hi All - Hope everyone's having a good weekend. I have been facing an issue with my Superb's Auto Start/Stop and sharing it to see if anyone has any thoughts.

I keep Auto Start/Stop activated always. What I have been noticing for some time now is that , maybe 1 out of 4 times, when Auto Start/Stop has cut-off power to the engine, (even while car has not come to a full stand-still) and then "auto-starts" the engine, the accelerator goes dead for a couple of seconds.

This does not happen always, nor have I been able to find a pattern to when it occurs - except maybe, that it happens whenever the car has not come to a full stand-still.

Have tried to get a scan done at the service center but have been informed there are no faults thrown up.

This is quite a problem in stop and go traffic and hence wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what may be causing this.

Cheers,

Sanju

Are your brake lights still on when the accelerator is unresponsive?  I'm just wondering if it's a faulty brake light switch.  I had a Passat where the accelerator went completely dead.  It turned out that the accelerator was functioning correctly, but the brake light switch was switching it off due to an internal fault.

I also have this issue occasionally. It seems to happen when I try to pull away again very soon after the engine has cut out, and it is particularly disconcerting if you have not quite come to a full stop before trying to pull away again (usually at a roundabout). I assumed it was just an unfortunate characteristic of the system needing a moment after cutting out before it will restart, rather than a fault as such. I've noticed that it is worse in Eco, so my suggestion if you haven't already is to try a different gearbox mode.

Not sure if it’s related but my car has a weak battery and sometimes when i start my car it cuts out after a few seconds with “start engine manually “ message.

This seems to be common on modern automatics now when they try to "anticipate" you are going to stop.

I had our Volvo at the dealer 4 times for the same issue where the engine would cut out whilst still moving when coming to a stop and then take some seconds to make forward progress when it restarted.

After finding nothing and contacting the "development centre" they said it was expected behaviour & couldn't do anything.

It's stupid things like this that make people turn off stopstart.

If the stop, start & abort was always consistent it would be much less worrisome especially at roundabouts and busy junctions
