Sunroof malfunction

Featured Replies

Hi, all i need some advise and direction.  i don't know if this thread belongs here or in another category per se. So tomorrow i have my Octavia booked with the service centre for them to have a look at why the unit above the head that holds the controls for the sunroof, sunshade, front internal lights and switches for the rear cabin lights randomly freezes and everything stops working only to self rectify 15 to 20 minutes later.  The car is under 7 year unlimited warranty with only a month and a half in so it should cover it. As It will be my first time ever taking a new car into a service centre and also the first time taking the car in.  I am slightly concerned that that will try to charge me and pass it on as wear and tear even though the issue has been there since the beginning.  The good thing is i have the email i sent to the dealer of that same place when the issue started occurring. Both the dealer and service centre are in the same compound, next to each other.  How should i approach, this any advice based on people's experience, what should i expect demand.

If someone with their wisdom and experience as well as knowledge in dealing with Skoda VAW service centres can give some tips it would be much appreciated.

Don't stress....they'll fix it no charge

I'll try not too. Thank you for the assurance. Appreciate your response.

Can understand your instinctive apprehension concerning 'dealing with dealers'. I also think you'll be fine, they are more likely to offer you warranty service properly rather than risk reputation. Just keep everything documented and in the unlikely event that you need to escalate, you should do so with the service manager first, then the dealer principal, then if necessary with Skoda Aus failing that. I doubt you'll need to do any of that, should be a straight forward warranty fix.

Hi thanks for your response. It's currently been looked at they have the car.  At this point they have told me it will be covered under warranty that will talk to me when it's ready.  I hope the problem gets rectified.  So it looks like i don't have anything to worry about. Let's see how it goes.

So had the car at the service centre for most of the day waiting,  first update from front staff was that they couldn't find any thing major wrong with it, they asked to keep it longer for an extra hour, good thing they did too as it did what it always does malfunctions, they detected a fault and they took footage of the problem that they have forwarded headquarters Skoda for them to advise on how they need to  proceed and if it's a common issue. Then they will need the vehicle back in. They have asked us not to use it leave it closed which will be hard to do here as we are in the middle of summer, i don't think the missus will be impressed with that.  So i suggesteed as soon as they find out from headquarters what the issue is for them to liase with the skoda service centre near to where we will be staying so that they can hopefully repair it and we can use it in our time away. That's the current update at this, point.

They should fix it under warranty.

But as an owner of a Skoda with a sunroof I have to say that the touch controls are naff and difficult to use. Bring back proper switches

Yes i agree they should

I absolutely agree.  I like the novelty of it but practically switches are better.

Finally, after so many weeks of malfunctioning sunroof, sunshade, interior lights I've been able to leave the car with Skoda service centre for them to work on as they have another similar vehicle that has the  same unit as mine so they can exchange parts, they will have the car for a few days,  also in for the recall as well.
