MPG keeps resetting

Featured Replies

Today my 3 month old (10,000 miles!!!!) vRS has started to reset the average MPG every time the car is sarted and the trip computer goes back to showing 0 miles driven. The odometer still works fine. Is this a common fault and is it a sign of any problems to come?

Cheers!

Mike

Has the reset button on the underside of the wiper stalk become stuck in the 'in' position? Or the trip odometer reset button on the dials got stuck? Try having a fiddle and see if anything pops out.

Good point, I'll have a fiddle :)

Sounds like you had it set on MFA2 - This is the long term average which records the past couple of thousand miles or so. You flick between 1 and 2 using the button on the underside of the wiper stalk. Holding this button down resets that trip back to zero too.

MFA1 just logs between trips, although it remembers data with the car turned off for around 5 to 6 hours I've found. :) I use MFA1 99.9% of the time to log trip mpg, for curiosity I sometimes slip to MFA2 to see how the long term average compares. My long term average is in the high 40s at the moment.

Hi Jason! That's very interesting and I didn't realise such a feature existed. Just to be clear, how do you switch between those modes? Cheers!

PS. I only spotted it after an aborted attempt at taking the Scoob for a run but the battery was flat. The vRS is that good that the Scoob gets very rare use these days as there are so few days to actually enjoy a performance car where the vRS is a perfect day to day motor :)

The wiper stalk has a toggle switch on the end right? This flicks between the mpg/trip/time/average speed/temp/clock etc functions. If you notice, when its on mpg/time/trip a litle number 1 appears on the screen.whereas on clock and temp this little number disappears. When the number pops up, have a feel under the wiper stalk and you'll feel a square button you push upwards (best to grip the stalk over the top with your 4 fingers, and use your thumb to push up else you might put the wipers on x2 speed  )

Have a play. :D

Fantastic! Thanks. Very handy and yes, that was what was going on.
