Turn signals acting funny

Featured Replies

Octavia 2 1.9 tdi. I got the car 2 weeks ago and the turn signals weren't working at all, hazard lights worked fine. Fast forward today and i put the battery in (i took the battery out cause i didn't need to drive it) and the turn signals worked but only the right one did, if i switch to the left the right one started working,  basically they didn't work properly at all. I took it to my service and i changed all the filters and the oil, i started up the car and now everything works fine? I really hope it continues to work, but what if it doesn't,  where should i look? Thank you

Could be that the contacts of the indicator stalk need to be cleaned.

Could also be a bad stalk

Or the battery voltage was too low intil you had driven it a few miles.

The electronics on these cars require a normal votage. It may still be possible to start the car with low battery voltage or temperature and see strange icons the display until the battery has further recharged. Or, as in your case, the indicators could be affected.

Having said that, it could be as siiiim suggested. There is post in this forum or perhaps the Octavia Mk1 forum that shows how to clean the contacts.

System voltage (as opposed to battery resting voltage) will be at 13.7v plus within two seconds of starting the engine, only the electric power steering pump current is capable of dropping that voltage and then only if the battery is flat and in conjunction with heated rear screen, lights, heater fan etc etc.
