Skoda Superb taking forever to heat up to temp

Featured Replies

Hi all!

New to the forum so thanks for having me!

A few months ago I bought a MK2 Superb S 2.0tdi 140, and its been a great car so far. It's on a  63 plate with 195k, good history and I only paid £2600 with a 6 month warranty from an independent garage. Car pulls and drives surprisingly well considering the mileage.

Now the issue I'm having is that it seems to take an age to get up to full temp (90°c.) I travel around 12.5 miles each way to and from work most of this is motorway miles and takes about 20 mins or so. I have had a look at the oil temp on the MFD and that can get up to about 80°c or so but as soon as I put the heating on it drops down as well so by the time I'm at work it's just about quarter of the way up on the temp gauge. I have done a test on this when when I have been out driving and it takes anywhere between 45 - 50 mins to stay at 90°c but can drop with the heating on.

Is this a normal thing for these cars to do?  I know the diesels can take a little while longer to heat up but surely not this long I imagine?

Any help or suggestions would be great!! 😊

Sounds like you need a new thermostat!
