Hi Guys,

 

I'm new to the forum and new to Skoda. 

 

Sadly I am in need of urgent help. 

 

I have a 2017 Skoda Octavia vrs hatchback.

 

I was today trying to remove the media unit in the glove box in preparation for installing a reverse cam. I didn't have the correct removal keys so used some i had ( think they were old Sony ones)

 

They did the job but sadly one key got stuck. I eventually managed to get it out, but after realised I had no stereo display

 

I initially thought a connector must be loose or similar but no such luck.

 

I have spent ages trying to figure it out and ran a scan of obdeleven..

Now i have tried clearing them and they won't go or come straight back. 

 

I have eventually resorted to removing the media unit from my wife's car and swapping them over. 

 

Hers fired up straight away in mine, and mine did nothing in hers.

 

This leads me to believe the media unit is dead or damaged. 

 

Any help would be appreciated, juat can't see how it can go so wrong, unless the removal key damaged the circuit board somehow. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another question, If I were to just but another 5Q0035874C unit, would it just be plug and play? Or would it need coding etc

It would need coding, component protection and a few other bits running,

 

Regarding the camera you fitted, what camera was it? how sure are you that the camera hasnt caused this? (i hope it wasnt one of them cheap chinese 'plug and play' ones)

 

Those radio keys you have used are completely the wrong type and there is a chance youve damaged the circuit board inside by using them.

Did you use the same keys on your wifes car?

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been getting notifications so didn't know I had any.

 

Sadly I had damaged the circuit board as suspected knocking off a resistor.

Thankfully a friend has managed to solder a new one in place so all is working again.

 

I didn't use the same keys on my wife's as I managed to get the right ones.

 

Almost a very expensive mistake.

Sadly the saga continues. 

 

Having had the resistor replaced everything worked fine for a bit, had the Bluetooth drop out a few times though.

 

Sadly a couple of days ago the screen went into a reboot and got stuck in a reboot loop. (All without me doing anything)

 

It took a few attempts to restart with forced reset but now the display has gone black again and the media unit seems to have lost all power so wont come on at all. 

 

My friend took another look and added a second resistor as it looked like there may have been two missing not just one.

 

This got power back to the unit and the lights in the memory card slots illuminated, however the screen still won't fire up.

 

As far as my friend can tell the damage I caused with the keys has been rectified, but the unit is still not working.

 

As a last ditch effort I have today tried to disconnect the battery in hope it would reset something but no luck.

 

I did however notice that one of the fault codes has now changed from U006500 - Veh communication Bus E, performance intermittent.

 

This has now gone and shows 

U105400 - information electronics control module 1, no communication. Static. 

 

Any help would be appreciated.

For info since it went wrong I also have error code U007200. Communication Bus E -  shorted to Bus E + static. NO IDEA WHAT THIS RELATES TOO.

How did he know what resistance the resistors need to be?

 

and I wouldn’t really be guessing there should or shouldn’t be a second resistor. Really you need to compare to a known good setup.
